‘Baitong – Pannita,’ an SPU logistics student, shares her learning journey through a national innovation competition.

Students majoring in Logistics and Supply Chain Management.

College of Logistics and Supply Chain, Sripatum University

Some people are naturally gifted, some are academically gifted, but for her, what took her beyond mere talent was “effort” and a “heart that wasn’t afraid to try.” From an ordinary girl who dared to step onto a competition stage for the first time, to accumulating experience from numerous university and national-level competitions, Baitong’s journey wasn’t just about awards, but also filled with lessons, growth, and inspiration.

What beauty pageants has Baitong entered before?

The first stage was the Logistics Innovation Hackathons 2024 held at Sripatum University, where we submitted the Green Nutrient Pot innovation. The second stage was the I New Gen Award 2025, with our projects: biodegradable pots made from peat moss and coconut fiber, and soft-serve ice cream with rambutan, chili, and salt. The silver medal for the soft-serve ice cream was a significant development from the first stage. The rambutan soft-serve ice cream was particularly successful and has the potential to be developed into a business. Importantly, it helps rambutan farmers increase the value of their fruit. The project received a very positive response and won the silver medal, which served as a crucial motivation for us to dare to think, dare to act, and believe in the power of our own creativity.

What motivates Baitong to continuously improve herself and keep competing?

The main driving force that keeps me constantly improving myself and daring to step onto every stage is the belief that “opportunities don’t come around often.” If we don’t dare to seize them today, we may never know our true capabilities. Most importantly, I believe that “we don’t need to wait until we’re ready to start; we should start first, and readiness will follow.” This is what gives me the courage to compete every time.

My feelings during my first pageant.

My first competition was the Logistics Innovation Hackathons 2024. I felt both excited and scared because I had no experience in anything like that before. I wasn’t sure if my work would be good enough, or if I’d have the courage to present it in front of others. But what helped me overcome my fear that day was my professor’s words: “I believe you can do it.” Those words changed me completely. “If someone believes in you, you should try believing in yourself too.”

How has the competition helped improve the logistics of banana leaves?

Each competition has helped develop my logistics skills more than I ever imagined. It’s not just about using knowledge from the classroom, but about “hands-on experience” from analyzing problems and designing solutions to presenting them in an interesting and clear way. I learned about systems thinking—how a single product impacts the supply chain, and how choosing biodegradable materials relates to storage, transportation, and the long-term environment. All of this is the principle of sustainable logistics.

How do we cope when we face pressure?

During the competition, I faced both pressure and insecurity, but I managed by planning ahead, breaking down tasks into steps, and always being open to communicating with my team. Most importantly, I reminded myself to view this stage as an opportunity to learn, not just a competition.

Which stage was the most impressive, and what did you learn from it?

My most memorable experience was participating in the I New Gen Award 2025 competition for our soft-serve ice cream with rambutan, chili, and salt. Besides developing my passion for the craft, I gained friendships and the opportunity to work with diverse peers. Everyone collaborated, brainstorming and solving problems, realizing that “great ideas truly emerge when we work together.”

Do you have any tips for preparing for a pageant that you'd like to share with younger contestants?

My tip is to be well-prepared both in terms of content and mindset. Gather information from all sides, practice presenting clearly, and most importantly, be open to feedback from your teachers. Teachers see perspectives you might not, and their encouragement has been instrumental in pushing me to confidently step onto the stage every time.

What makes logistics so interesting?

From my perspective, logistics is very relevant and important to our daily lives. Whether it’s food, clothes, or household goods, everything goes through a logistics system. For high school students, I think simply being able to see things around you in a systematic way and being open to learning new things is a good starting point. Important skills include planning, communication, and teamwork.

How do you heal yourself when you're tired or discouraged?

When I encounter obstacles or feel discouraged, I find time to rest my mind by doing things I enjoy. But the thing that helps me heal the fastest is the encouraging words from my teacher, who constantly reminds me not to give up and to believe in myself. My teacher is like a major driving force that makes me get up and fight again every time.

What advice would you give to younger students who are still lacking self-confidence?

I want to tell you all: Don’t be afraid to start and don’t be afraid to fail, because every success begins with the first step. Even if you’re not confident in yourself yet, don’t let fear stop you. Open your mind to learning new things, and believe me, there’s potential in all of us waiting to be discovered. Just start doing it, and confidence will follow.

What is Bai Tong's next goal?

My next goal is to continuously develop my knowledge and skills in logistics so that I can create innovations that truly solve social and environmental problems. I want to use my knowledge to help develop the country for sustainable growth, because I believe that the small things we do today will have a positive impact in the future.
