You can claim that you did not intend to do it, but you cannot claim that you #did not know the law.

* This excuse is dropped. It doesn’t make sense. *
Have you ever heard the legal proverb that says, “Ignorance of the law is no excuse”?
“Ignorance of the law is no excuse.”

It is a legal principle stipulated in the Criminal Code, Section 64: “No person shall excuse ignorance of the law in order to escape criminal liability…”

This means that people cannot claim that they are #ignorant of the law! But it does not mean that all those who do not know the law have no right to defend themselves or that they will always be the perpetrators.

Because if the court sees that, based on the circumstances and behavior, the offender could not have known that the law stipulates that such action is a crime, the offender can find evidence to show the court that he really did not know the law. And if the court can be convinced, the court will have the power to consider a lesser sentence than the prescribed penalty, however much.

For example, Mr. A has marijuana in his possession for consumption. Mr. A cannot claim that he did not know that consuming marijuana was illegal.
