When I first walked out of university with a small bag full of knowledge that I had learned, to step into a new, bigger world that was full of competition in every dimension, I was involved in marketing all along. This is a career that is considered fiercely competitive at every level of work. This is because marketing is considered the heart that drives the income of the business. Therefore, most executives tend to give importance to and expect results from this department especially.
Throughout the years, the sense of marketing has been embedded in my blood without me realizing it. And it has made me a person who craves for success through sales during one period of my life as a marketer. I never thought that doing marketing campaigns would make the work of other related departments more difficult. At that time, all I cared about was that the sales must be as high as I and my team could achieve and must be within the budget set by the executives. That way, my team’s KPI would be better than other teams. I have lived this kind of marketing life until I became a Brand Manager, which is not only responsible for the sales of the product, but also responsible for the entire product production process from upstream to downstream. And it caused a huge turning point in my life when I became an “entrepreneur” myself later on.
At the beginning of the business, it was very different from when I was a product manager because now I had to do everything myself. There were no subordinates, no accounting department, no purchasing department, no HR department, and no assistants like before. I was very tired at that time and it made me understand the accounting department much more than before because accounting is the last line of every activity in the business that requires the accuracy of both documents and related tax issues. Not to mention the notification of signs of liquidity shortage in the business from various causes. I had to handle all of the above by myself and it was very complicated. Therefore, it was a turning point that made me decide to study at the Faculty of Accountancy, Sripatum University (SPU) to expand the business.
I have gained knowledge in many fields from studying accounting at SPU that I can apply to my business to make it more convenient and have better standards than before, such as improving the accounting system to be consistent with the nature of my business, setting internal controls in various departments related to accounting, planning costs, managing inventory, linking tax accounting with personnel, setting product routes to be consistent with accounting and tax records, creating marketing campaigns related to accounting and taxes, etc. The aforementioned tasks are very important to the business because they not only have to be managed in accordance with laws such as the Accounting Act B.E. 2543, the Revenue Code, and other related laws, but applying the knowledge I have learned will make my business more standardized, ready for expansion (Scale up), and importantly, as a business owner, I will be able to see the true financial status of the business through financial reports that are the result of applying accounting knowledge from SPU to the business.
In addition to the various knowledge that I have applied in my business, which has made my role as a business owner more convenient and easier than before, there is another very important course for me, “ACT 351: Accounting Research”, because it is a course that provides knowledge in research and creating standard written works, which is very useful for another role of mine, which is an article writer. After taking this course, I have reviewed my writing more carefully, such as searching for information, referencing, using various tools, creating questionnaires, etc. It can also be extended to my work as a lecturer, which requires referencing various sources of information and statistics to create presentation content. In addition, this course helps pave the way for creating academic works to further develop my future academic role. I would like to thank Dr. Pantip Yongklan, who is both an advisor, a lecturer/instructor in this course, and who has taken care of academic matters until I successfully completed it.
I am very happy to have continued my studies in accounting at SPU and am very proud to have become a full-fledged accountant with the qualifications according to Section 7 (6) of the Accounting Act B.E. 2543 through the transfer of knowledge in all fields by quality lecturers from the Faculty of Accountancy, Sripatum University. Therefore, I would like to express my gratitude to all lecturers here.
