Following the proposal from the Ministry of Public Health to draft the Drug Act B.E. … to amend the Drug Act B.E. 2510, the Cabinet has a resolution from the Office of the Secretariat to the Cabinet, in which the Office of the Secretariat to the Cabinet has an opinion that the Ministry of Public Health should bring the draft Drug Act B.E. … back to discuss with the Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, the Office of the Council of State, the National Economic and Social Development Board, and the Office of the Board of Investment to reconsider before submitting it back to the Cabinet.
The Sripathum Law Center, Faculty of Law, Sripathum University, as an academic, is concerned about the amendment of the draft Narcotics Act B.E. … because it still lacks the integration of legal principles and public health professional principles, including international law and international regulations. There are still many opinions from many parties and in many dimensions that are beneficial to the guidelines for the amendment of the draft Narcotics Act B.E. … to be in accordance with international standards, as Thailand, a member of the United Nations, should comply with. And in order for the government’s work to be more flexible and without duplication of agencies, it is very important to allow experts and individuals from all groups involved in each area to participate in giving their opinions in order to bring knowledge to consider carefully the consideration of the draft Narcotics Act B.E. … to reduce the widespread impact on the public as patients and public health professionals, both in the patient care system in the public and private sectors, as well as reduce the impact on the drug system or public health system of the country, which may lead to safety in the care of both the lives and bodies of patients.
Therefore, the Sripathum Law Center, Faculty of Law, Sripathum University, organized a seminar under the topic “Analysis of the Draft Drug Act B.E. … and the possible impacts on the country” on Saturday, April 4, 2015 at Sripathum University. We invited qualified persons, experts, lecturers, and patients from the public sector to join the seminar to express their opinions and suggestions.
