Master of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (MAIML)
College of Computing, Data Science, and Society (CDSS) สอนโดยคณาจาก Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences (EECS) และ Statistics เนื้อหาหลักเข้มข้นทั้ง data science, probability, statistical inference, machine learning และจริยธรรม AI พร้อมวิชาเลือกเฉพาะทาง เช่น causal inference, natural language processing (NLP), optimization, deep neural networks และ reinforcement learning เพื่อตอบโจทย์การพัฒนาและใช้งานระบบ AI ขั้นสูงอย่างรับผิดชอบ
Executive Director of Educational Programs and New Initiatives แห่ง CDSS โดยก่อนหน้านี้เคยกำกับหลักสูตร Master of Financial Engineering (MFE) ของ Berkeley Haas ที่บูรณาการ ML และ NLP สะท้อนวิถีบรรจบระหว่างการเงินเชิงปริมาณ เทคโนโลยี และการศึกษาระดับบัณฑิต
A fast lane to AI and ML careers: UC Berkeley’s MAIML pairs rigorous foundations with Silicon Valley immersion, starting Fall 2027
UC Berkeley has announced the Master of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (MAIML), a two-semester, full-time professional degree designed to prepare the next wave of AI/ML talent. The inaugural cohort starts in Fall 2027, with applications opening on September 24, 2026 and a current deadline of January 11, 2027.
Housed in the College of Computing, Data Science, and Society (CDSS) and taught by faculty from Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences (EECS) and Statistics, the program delivers intensive training in data science, probability, statistical inference, machine learning, and AI ethics. Specialized electives include causal inference, natural language processing, optimization, deep neural networks, and reinforcement learning—equipping graduates to build, refine, and responsibly deploy advanced AI systems.
A Silicon Valley immersion anchors the program’s industry connection, linking classroom learning to the region’s technology ecosystem. “With the introduction of the Master’s in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning degree, UC Berkeley is creating a unique opportunity for students to receive rigorous AI training in an ecosystem that champions transformation,” said Jennifer Chayes, dean of CDSS. “Our graduates will be the architects of new technologies that help define the future.”
A key architect of Berkeley’s professional education expansion is Jacob Gallice, Executive Director of Educational Programs and New Initiatives at CDSS and a Rebellion Research advisory board member. Gallice previously led Berkeley Haas’s Master of Financial Engineering program, which integrated ML and NLP—experience that naturally feeds into a dedicated professional master’s at the AI/ML frontier.
The MAIML requires 24 units of coursework and a comprehensive examination. Applicants are expected to have strong preparation in programming, algorithms, linear algebra, statistics, probability, software engineering, and multivariate calculus, with a bachelor’s degree in CS, data science, statistics, applied mathematics or a closely related field (minimum 3.0 GPA). GRE scores are optional; three recommendation letters, a statement of purpose, a personal history statement, and a résumé are required.
For a tech audience, the takeaway is clear: Berkeley is lowering barriers to advanced AI/ML learning by offering a tightly structured, one-academic-year pathway that combines deep computational foundations with direct industry exposure.
