Take a tour of the laboratory at SOE SPU, a space for developing imagination into specialized expertise.
As you know, studying at our Faculty of Engineering, Sripatum University, focuses on providing students with the most realistic learning experience. Therefore, we have a variety of laboratories to develop agile working skills so that students become familiar with real tools and working environments.
The first room that we will take you to see is the BIM or Building Information Modeling laboratory, which is a new technology that has been developed for the construction and architectural industries. In this room, students will practice using the BIM program that is used to control various processes. The system will create an accurate virtual model of the building, a digital model such as design, drafting, structural calculations, cost estimation, purchasing, and even planning various building projects.
The specialty of the BIM operating system is that the details calculated and recorded by the BIM program can also provide complete “information” of the building, not just the external shape. For example, what materials are used in the building, where are they produced, how much per square metre, including other important information that is necessary for taking quantities (BOQ) and estimating prices quickly, correctly and precisely, so that working as a project control engineer goes smoothly and with maximum efficiency.
In the past, students of the Faculty of Engineering, Sripatum University, have won the BIM competition at the National Engineering Fair in 2020, organized by the Engineering Institute of Thailand under the Royal Patronage in collaboration with the Faculty of Engineering, Sripatum University. This is a good confirmation of the expertise of the engineering students here in using this tool smoothly.
In addition to the BIM operating system, this laboratory is also a source of learning to enhance skills and theoretical knowledge to actual practice in various systems, whether it is plumbing engineering, which is considered important to the building in terms of managing water systems inside and outside the building in all forms to be proportionate, convenient to use, and safe. It is also important to users in the building in terms of factors that help promote good hygiene in living, in order to create good efficiency in use and convenient maintenance throughout the service life.
Including laboratories, building air conditioning engineering, and humidity control, which tend to grow continuously in the future due to climate change, pollution, and the spread of various germs. And these are three examples of laboratories of the Faculty of Engineering, Sripatum University that we are proud to present. There are still other interesting research and operations in the Faculty of Engineering that we will take everyone to see. Where else will there be? Wait to follow in the next episode.
