The team of 4th year engineering students from Sripatum University, consisting of Mr. Sombun Kamolphujitkup, Mr. Nattapong Kongmalai, Mr. Setthawichok Nilnawarat, and Mr. Itthisak Anantakankul, with Dr. Wana Yutsaenngern, head of the Bachelor of Engineering Program in Mechatronics Engineering, Sripatum University as an advisor, have jointly created an innovation called “Innovative Walking Assist Robot for Paraplegic Patients”.
Dr. Wana Yutsaen-ngern, Head of the Bachelor of Engineering Program in Mechatronics Engineering, Sripatum University, revealed that the Faculty of Engineering, Sripatum University has a slogan of “Simply Significant”, an important force driving towards success. We believe that everyone is as important as every cog in driving towards great success together. We have a teaching philosophy that focuses on important things that can be used for benefit, distilling difficult and complicated engineering topics into easy-to-understand, practical applications through on-point training, allowing students to learn deeply and enjoy real experiences, becoming personnel who play an important role in society.
“With the cooperation of all personnel and alumni from every generation, the Faculty of Engineering has been able to move forward continuously and steadily. As a result of the determination and diligence in studying and the hard work of our student team this time, they have received many honorary awards. This is a great pride for us, the engineers of Sripatum. We believe that this will teach everyone the value of patience, sacrifice, and responsibility towards their duties, making them graduate engineers who are valuable to society and an honor for Sripatum University forever,” said Dr. Wana.
Mr. Sombun Kamolphujitkup, the team leader, said that “The innovation of the Walking Assist Robot was inspired by the need to help paraplegic patients have a better quality of life and reduce the burden on their relatives who have to take care of them all the time. This innovation will help patients to be able to help themselves to some extent by working in the form of an automatic robot with a simple operating mechanism. Patients can control the operation by themselves. This is an innovation that we spent quite a lot of time studying and researching and devoted our full potential to creating in order to benefit paraplegic patients. In the future, we want to build on this success to create a commercial robot.”
For the awards received, they include the National Inventors’ Day 2015 winner, the New Generation Inventor Award – Inventions for Medical and Public Health Benefits at the Vocational Education and Higher Education Level by the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT), and the winner of the Social Robotics Contest in the 3rd Robotics Competition for Manufacturing Processes or RACMP 2014.
Organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology, together with the National Metal and Materials Technology Center, National Science and Technology Development Agency, Thailand Center of Excellence for Life Sciences (TCELS), and the Thai-German Institute, along with 2 awards from “Taipei International Invention Show & Technomart” (INST 2015) 30 Sept. – 4 Oct. 2015 in Taipei, Taiwan: “Honorable Mention” by Taipei Int’l Invention Show & Technomart and “Leading Innovation Award” by International Intellectual Property Network Forum (IIPNF). In addition, we received a scholarship of 20,000 baht from Tao Kae Noi to further develop business opportunities.
“The awards we have received are an honor and dignity of Thailand that proves that Thai people are just as capable as any other nation in the world. As long as we have true intentions and try hard, and are determined to create something useful, that alone can inspire us to create good things for society and our country,” concluded Mr. Sombun Kamolphujitkup.
