CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics Analysis) Laboratory
Failure that leads to great success
One of the laboratories that can bring academic knowledge to further use for the public in a suitable way is the CFD Laboratory, Computational Fluid Dynamics Analysis Laboratory, which has received research funding from the private sector by Nampol Company, resulting in many innovative works that help solve the problem of lack of and reliance on foreign technology, such as examples of real projects that have been worked on in this laboratory.
1. Waste Water Pump Design The project to build a large water pump to solve the problem of flooding in residential areas in large cities is one of the research projects that reflects the philosophy of Simply Significant very well. Every step of the research before it becomes this large water pump has been nurtured and born in the laboratory at the Faculty of Engineering, Sripatum University. Starting from the research team led by Dr. Kiatsak Sakulphan from the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Innovation, Faculty of Engineering, Sripatum University, who met to discuss the problems and needs of the government sector that needed technology to help solve the problem of flooding by requiring a large high-powered water pump that can handle a large amount of water in the area. Then, the research team analyzed the concept and needs to design, followed by a 3D design, followed by a simulation process using the ANSYS Software program that is recognized in the international academic circle for its efficiency and reliability. In this design process, researchers will test, trial and error to test the planned design with the efficiency obtained, which will be a continuous process until satisfactory results are achieved. Then, they will enter the prototype production process and finally create the actual large water pump equipment.
2. Hydro Turbine For Electric Power Plant is another project that has been invented, tested and tested at this laboratory as well. This project received financial support from the Provincial Electricity Authority, which aims to help eliminate and alleviate the suffering of people living in remote areas with potential water sources but lacking efficient transmission systems. The research team of Sripatum University has planned to solve this problem by converting water energy in the area into electricity to distribute to people in the area. This must be considered another engineering feat that truly improves the quality of life of the people, thanks to the determination and dedication of the team and the support of both Sripatum University and the Provincial Electricity Authority.
3. Elevator Shaft Analysis Another project that uses engineering knowledge to improve the efficiency and satisfactory use of elevators in buildings. The origin of this project came from an attempt to solve the problem of the gap between the elevator and the elevator shaft wall. Sometimes, the architectural design of the construction and the problems that occur in the actual work site are different. This causes the gap problem. When the elevator moves up and down at high speed, air pressure will be created in the gap, causing the elevator to vibrate and noise to enter the elevator cabin. The research and experiments in the laboratory at the Faculty of Engineering here have helped solve this problem very well. The elevator construction was free from obstacles and problems that were previously encountered.
And these are just some of the research projects that have received funding from the government and private sectors, resulting in academic works that can be applied in practice, solving problems, suffering and distress of users with a true understanding of those needs. Because the teaching of engineering at Sripatum University focuses on giving students the opportunity to study, research, do it, and try and make mistakes because we believe that failure leads to great success. If we do not stop moving forward, we will develop and create real experiences that will lead to the skills and expertise that will enable us to solve various problems in the best way.
