Digital Safety by Dr. Thirasan Sahasapas, Director of the #DNAbySPU program, Faculty of Business Administration, Sripatum University

  1. I recommend watching the movie The Great Hack.
  2. Nowadays, there are many ways to secretly extract our data from Facebook.
    • Such as taking questionnaires, playing personality quizzes, etc.
    • They will take your basic information and personal habits to assess what kind of products you like and what kind of lifestyle you have.
    • And use the information to advertise various products and let us see products that match our lifestyle.
    • Even if we surf the web through a Private window or Incognito window, they can still collect our information.
  3. Our information is being monitored all the time.
    • For example, why does Google Maps know which roads are congested?
    • Because they capture data from the GPS in our mobile phones, they know how fast we are moving and how long we have been stationary.
    • It is the collection of data from many places together, also known as Crowd Sourcing.
  4. The platforms that we use for free, we are constantly being read by them.
    • No one gives us anything for free. We use their products and they get information from us.
  5. You can delete your activity when you use Google sites, apps, and services.
    • Go to My Google Activity> Click the trash can in the lower right corner to clear your data.
  6. Today, we are being bombarded with massive amounts of data, known as Big Data.
    • Large organizations will analyze this data to better reach their customers.
  7. There was an incident where 773 million email accounts worldwide were hacked.
    • You can check if your email is one of the accounts that have been hacked by going to
    • Website https://haveibeenpwned.com/
** Or an easier way is to change your email password.
  8. Nowadays, almost all of our personal information is online because you post it on social media.
    • telephone number
    • Appearance
    • address
    • Some people may accidentally post pictures of their ID cards, credit cards, or boarding passes.
    • This information may be used by people with ill intentions.
  9. If you are running a business, it is recommended to have two phone numbers.
    • And keep email or account linked to alternate numbers between personal and business numbers to prevent others from knowing all of our information.
  10. There are many ways to cheat or hack your data. One of the most common methods is Phishing.
    • Phishing is the process of creating a fake website and tricking people into entering their credentials.
    • For example, an email informing us to change our Facebook password, an SMS informing us that money has been withdrawn from our account, so they can verify their identity.
  11. The initial check method is:
    • Look at the website address name to see if it is trustworthy or not.
    • Check if it is an official website.
    • If it is about the bank, call the bank directly and do not call the number or contact via suspicious email.
  12. Account hacking is often caused by:
    • Enter your Username and Password on strange websites.
    • Setting a password that is too easy
    • Set a simple password for shared use within the company.
    • Set your password to a personal name, such as lookpad1999.
  13. How should we set the password?
    • Easy to remember
    • Has lowercase letters
    • Has capital letters
    • There are numbers
    • There are special characters.
    • Don’t use the same password everywhere.
    For example
    myWIFEis110%sexy
    myWIFEis110%sexyFB
    myWIFEis110%sexyIG
    myWIFEis110%sexyGmail
  14. If you are afraid of forgetting your password, use the Password Manager service.
    • Such as LastPass website
  15. How to prevent being hacked
    • Change your account passwords at least once a year.
    • Be careful about the camera attached to your computer, it may be hacked, the camera may be opened and your images may be used.
    • Be careful of downloading pirated programs, they often come with viruses or malware.
    • Always update Windows or programs to the latest version.
  16. Introducing the ETDA page, a page that recommends how to handle a lost mobile phone.
  17. A common misconception that Facebook is eavesdropping on us
    • It is not effective because it is at risk of noise or sound quality.
    • Facebook has better ways of collecting data, such as matching where you went and what was in the photo.
    • Or reading conversations on Facebook Messages or when we go to look at information on various pages or websites.
    • Every time you click on Facebook, even if you don’t click Like, Facebook knows you clicked to view.
    • Every movement on the web page or on the page, the page owner will know what you did because the data is stored.
    • Facebook will use data processing and AI to process to assess who you are and what you want.
