I graduated with a degree in accounting…why did you become a soldier?

Hello, Pepsi Amara Pianbucha, an alumnus of the Faculty of Accountancy, both bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Currently, I am a military officer in the position of financial clerk, accounting section, finance division, Department of Military Logistics, Royal Thai Army Headquarters.

If you have studied with me, you will see that I don’t think I would be a soldier. With my looks, dress, and external personality that seem strong, I was an active child who was a very good dancer. I once led our accounting faculty to win a cheerleading competition in an external sports competition. At that time, the accounting faculty was famous in cheerleading competitions.

Coming to the reason why I joined the military, it might be my destiny. When I first graduated, I posted that I would find a stable side job first and then find a stable main job. It’s hard to believe that typing those things would come true. When time took me, I also had experience working for private companies, whether they were foreign or Thai companies. The experience I gained made me strong and very confident in my work. The starting point for trying to take the civil service exam was before COVID-19. I happened to be unemployed with nothing to do and my side business was operating smoothly. It just so happened that the department opened an exam, so I tried taking the exam. Let’s start from the beginning by being an employee. The salary is not adjusted. Many people may wonder why I chose to do this because I have to graduate with a master’s degree. I believe that education is an investment. If we don’t try to do it ourselves, we will not know what is inside the country and the Thai civil service system. When I had the opportunity to work for about 6 months, there was a competitive exam for recruitment. I was hired as an employee with a bachelor’s degree, with a starting salary of 18,000 baht. My opportunity came. I had to show my abilities by taking another competitive exam. In the end, I passed the exam to become a government employee. At that time, my position was a finance and accounting specialist. Then, to take the exam to be appointed as a rank, you must have worked for 2 years before you are eligible to take the internal exam. We waited until we were able to take the exam to become a professional soldier.

What we gain from being a soldier is honor, discipline, patience, and public spirit. I have applied all of my knowledge and skills to my unit, regardless of how high my education is. But most importantly, how much benefit we have gained from our knowledge and skills. If we start with ourselves, with public spirit, not being self-centered, and practicing good and proper behavior, I believe our society will be a much better place to live.

Civil service, although the salary is not higher than the private sector, but there are many welfare benefits for us, such as medical expenses for ourselves and our parents, education rights for children, etc. If we have a good life plan, I think civil service is another option for the younger ones. “ I believe that Sripatum students, Faculty of Accountancy, are very capable because each teacher has imparted knowledge to us effectively. This can be seen from each of the seniors who have graduated and worked successfully, including me. Even though I walk slowly, I walk effectively and steadily.”
