Development of earthquake resistant building design
Earthquakes are natural disasters that rarely occur and have a low intensity in Thailand. However, research and study are important to help develop the construction industry to be more advanced and have higher safety standards, such as the Earthquake Resistant Building Design Development Project, a research project by Professor Dr. Paiboon Panya Kapo, Director of the Master of Engineering and Doctor of Engineering Programs in Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Sripatum University, one of the experts and involved in the development of earthquake resistant building design in Thailand, who has focused on research that can be applied to solve problems, livelihoods, and quality of life of the Thai population.
And one of the proudest achievements is being responsible for designing the school building of Mae Lao Wittayakhom School, which was damaged by a major earthquake in 2014 with a magnitude of 6.1 Richter, causing damage to the entire school building. This led to the construction project of a new school building, which received the gracious grace of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, who donated her personal funds to construct a new school building to replace the original building that was damaged by the natural disaster at that time.
This is another proud achievement of the Faculty of Engineering and Sripatum University, which has had the opportunity to be a part of the project to lay the foundation for earthquake-resistant buildings in areas at risk of severe earthquakes, such as the northern region of the country, in order to improve the quality of life and housing of rural people, for the safety and security of the property and lives of all Thais. It also brings joy to all Sripatum University residents that Dr. Paiboon Panya-kapo has been granted the title of Professor, which is one of the few individuals, especially in private universities, who has received this honorary award for his dedication and diligence in research and study in order to use the knowledge gained to develop society and the country.
