When she returned to Thailand, she borrowed money from her father to build a 60-room hotel at the entrance of the Oriental Hotel, named the Princess Hotel. She also initiated the construction of a swimming pool to serve tourists, the first in Thailand. Because there were few workers, Khunying Chanat Piyaoui often had to help with room arrangement, bathroom cleaning, cooking, or bar work. 40 years ago, women did not dare to work in hotels. However, after seeing Khunying Chanat Piyaoui’s example, there was a change. In other words, women dared to work in hotels more. Since then,
Later, Khunying Khanat Piyaoui built a hotel with her own symbol, “Dusit Thani Hotel” in 1970. It was a 525-room hotel with a capital of 300 million baht, using approximately 5% of her own capital. The rest was raised from both domestic and international sources, without collateral, but relying solely on her accumulated honor, reputation, and honesty as collateral.
From her experience in managing Dusit Thani hotels, as well as studying books, recommendations from tourists, and studying abroad in Europe, America, and Asia, Khunying Chanat Piyaoui was able to expand her work by opening more hotels, both in Bangkok and other provinces. This created more jobs and allowed her well-trained staff, officers, and executives to progress further. As her hotel business became more evident, she was trusted by business owners in terms of management. Therefore, there were hotels that Khunying Chanat Piyaoui helped manage throughout both domestic and international regions. They were divided into 2 types: 5-star hotels and above, managed by the “Dusit Thani” group, totaling 9 hotels, 2,273 rooms, and 3,366 employees; 4-star hotels, managed by the “Royal Princess” group, totaling 11 hotels, 1,894 rooms, and 2,120 employees. To promote hotel education, Khunying Chanat Piyaoui opened an international school. The school established a hotel management course, “Dusit Thani Hotel School”, which is a 2-year course including practical training. It is located on Srinakarin Road and has been operating since June 18, 1993. It hired foreign experts to teach. In terms of social administration, Khunying Chanat Piyaoui played an important role in social activities, being a board member of many associations and foundations, a campaigner on environmental degradation, fighting AIDS, preserving Thai customs and traditions, and promoting Thai arts to foreigners around the world. For her good deeds, she was awarded the Fourth Class of the Most Illustrious Order of Chula Chom Klao, the Third Class of the Most Illustrious Order of Chula Chom Klao, and the Second Class of the Most Illustrious Order of Chula Chom Klao in 1989, 1992, and 1993, respectively.
At present, Khunying Chanat Piyaoui is the Chairman and Managing Director of Dusit Thani Public Company Limited, Dusit Thani Bangkok Hotel, and the Chairman of 17 other companies, the Managing Director of Royal Princess Public Company Limited, and the Director of 8 other companies, foundations, and organizations. Her efficient management, creativity, good human relations, and Thai-ness have created jobs and people to develop the country’s economy at the same time. Therefore, she is recognized and respected by people in the industry and the general public. Congress Women in Decision Making 1985, the certificate of exemplary person in 1988, the shield of the hotel executive, the shield of the businesswoman of the year in 1989, and she received an honorary doctorate degree in business administration from the National Institute of Development Administration on January 11, 1990, which clearly shows that: Khunying Chanat Piyaoui is a person with high knowledge and ability in tourism and hotel management. She has played a role in developing and providing benefits to society in many ways, which is well-known and widely accepted.

Mr. Chatuphon Sihanathakakul was born in Bangkok on July 24, 1941. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the Faculty of Commerce and Accountancy, Chulalongkorn University in 1964. After graduation, he started working as an internal auditor at Shell Company of Thailand. He worked there for 2 years. His father built the Siam Hotel on Petchburi New Road, Bangkok, so he assigned Mr. Chatuphon Sihanathakakul to manage the hotel as a general manager. Mr. Chatuphon Sihanathakakul did not study hotel management, so he took care of finance and accounting first. However, because he was a person who was serious about his work and had a habit of loving to learn, he researched and found knowledge by himself, and modified it to apply to the Siam Hotel, which made the Siam Hotel a highly successful hotel.
With his broad vision and foresight of the benefits to society and the country, Mr. Chatuporn Sihanatkathakul saw that the hotel business was an important business that would support tourism, which was a business that brought income to the country and created jobs and distributed income to people in all professions in all areas throughout the country. Therefore, he decided to build a large hotel, the Landmark Hotel, on Sukhumvit Road, Bangkok, with 414 rooms in 1987. After that, he acquired 3 hotels in England: the Royal Lancaster Hotel with 418 rooms in 1994, the Landmark London Hotel with 309 rooms in 1996, and the K West Hotel in 2001.
With Mr. Chatuporn Sihanatkathakul’s high knowledge and ability, the hotel business in both Bangkok and London, England, has achieved great success. The evidence is that the four hotels have received awards from many magazines and organizations related to the tourism business, such as between 1996 and 2005, Landmark Hotel Bangkok received a total of 8 awards. In particular, in 2004, it received the award for the best service standards in the Asia Pacific region, namely the “QXL Champion Hotel of the Year, Asia Pacific” from Summit Hotels & Resorts. Between 1994 and 2006, Landmark Hotel London received a total of 17 awards in various categories, especially in 2005, it received the award for the best hotel in the world, namely the “Gold List World’s Best Places to Stay” from the world’s most famous travel magazine, Conde Nast Traveler. Each event had a severe impact on the tourism and hotel business. Most importantly, the economic crisis in 1997. However, with the potential to use the principles of management and tourism and hotels, Mr. Chatuporn Sihanatkathakul was able to manage the business through the crisis until it achieved great success today.
In addition to being a hotel business manager who has a positive impact on the country’s economy, as a person who is thoroughly knowledgeable about hotel and tourism business, Mr. Chatuporn Sihanatkathakul has used that knowledge to do good deeds and benefit the country. This can be seen from his important role in academic and social services, such as being an associate judge of the Labor Court for 9 terms, being a member of the drafting committee of the Tourism Act, being an advisor to the Tourism Committee of the House of Representatives, being the president of the Thai Tourism Industry Trade Association, and being the secretary-general of the Bangkok Hotel Employers Association, etc.
