👨🔬 The Department of Climate Change and Environment has implemented the Green Hotel project with the objective of promoting the potential of establishments to use resources and energy efficiently and effectively, to have good environmental management, to improve service standards, and to expand the number of environmentally friendly hotel networks to support the procurement measures of environmentally friendly products and services of government agencies and to encourage environmentally friendly consumption, as well as to prepare establishments for the assessment of international environmental standards, which will lead to sustainable development and promotion of national tourism and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, which are the main causes of climate change and global warming, which are becoming a major environmental crisis. It consists of 7 topics as follows:
1.Green energy ♻️
Hotels are one of the services that require a lot of energy because they have to provide services 24 hours a day. Turning to clean energy sources will be an important factor in saving both costs and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, such as solar power, wind, water, biomass, or even renewable energy from waste.
2. Reduce plastic waste 🪣
Let’s explore where single-use plastics are in our hotels and whether we can find a replacement to reduce plastic waste or use only as necessary. In addition to reducing the amount of biodegradable waste, it also helps reduce costs and creates a good image for hotel owners.
3. Reducing energy consumption 🪫
Most eco-friendly hotels focus on campaigns to reduce energy consumption, through signs asking for cooperation or organizing promotions to encourage guests to save energy, including changing light bulbs to LEDs, using electrical appliances that meet green industry standards or energy-saving appliances with a grade 5 rating.
4. Manage waste properly 🚮
Waste management, in addition to separating each type of waste correctly, there are many things to consider, such as planning from procurement and setting clear goals for reducing the amount of waste to be disposed, such as following the 3R principle: waste reduction, reuse and reuse.
5. Reduce water loss 💦
A great way for hotels to conserve water is to regularly inspect their water systems, especially hotels with swimming pools, to avoid unnecessary water waste. Also, any water discharged from the pool or other systems should be treated so that it can be reused.
6. Turn to using recycled products or natural materials 🌏
Amenities in the hotel room or bathroom must always be changed. Each day, a lot of resources may be used. If you can change to use recyclable or biodegradable products, you can also reduce waste. Therefore, you must plan from the procurement that is environmentally friendly or turn to support local products in the community to reduce energy consumption during long-distance transportation. But if you want to be more sustainable, you should create cooperation, encourage the community to know about environmentally friendly production processes. This will create even stronger reinforcements and create a good image for the hotel.
7. Motivate and educate 👨💻
Hotel staff or personnel are important cogs that will help drive the goals of green hotels. Therefore, entrepreneurs should create motivation and provide knowledge to create skills in working in environmentally friendly services. Doing it with your heart will definitely see results.
Checklist Here are 7 ways that hotels can be more environmentally friendly, reduce costs, and create a good image for hotel owners. Or you can try to apply this method to other businesses as well.
