From the first prenatal check-up to the first day back on campus, Sripatum University makes sure that having a child never costs a woman her job, her pay or her place in class.

At Sripatum University (SPU), maternity protection is part of how the university is governed. SPU’s staff work regulations, together with the Ministerial Regulation on work protection for private higher-education staff, give female employees paid maternity leave before and after childbirth. They also give a pregnant employee the right to move temporarily to suitable duties on medical advice, and keep pregnant staff away from night shifts, overtime and hazardous tasks. Because staff benefits may never fall below national law, SPU’s entitlements moved forward with Thailand’s Labour Protection Act (No. 9), in force from 7 December 2025. That amendment strengthened maternity leave and shared parental care for working families across the country.
The policy is applied every day. Leave is requested and approved through the e-HR system, so supervisors at every level handle it the same way. A Work Protection Committee, appointed by the University Council in 2022, hears staff appeals and complaints about working conditions and benefits. Its members include external experts and elected staff representatives. Support continues after leave ends. In November 2025, SPU opened free, family-friendly spaces on campus with seating, a quiet play corner and a lactation area, so that staff and student mothers can return to work and class without arranging outside care. Throughout the year, the Personnel Office also runs well-being activities for staff, such as office-syndrome workshops and skills training, where women colleagues learn and care for one another.
Paid leave keeps household income steady. Protected duties safeguard maternal health.
The outcome is a workplace where women do not have to choose between a family and a career. A clear path back keeps women’s skills, seniority and leadership in the university. The policy advances gender equality, decent work and maternal well-being, in line with the people-centred goals of SPU’s Alpha Ready Roadmap. As a next step, SPU will keep its leave rules in step with national law and expand family-friendly facilities across its campuses.
At SPU, becoming a mother is a milestone the university supports. Through paid leave, safe duties and care spaces on campus, Sripatum makes sure every woman can grow her family and her career together.
