Heritage that is never written down, filmed or practised is easily lost. Sripatum University (SPU) treats heritage preservation as a shared responsibility of every faculty. Under its Policy on Promoting Local and National Arts and Culture, the university commits to research and to building knowledge bases so that local and national culture is passed on. The Center for Arts and Culture, a permanent unit under Student Affairs, coordinates this work, and faculties and campuses take it into their communities.

During the 2025–2026 academic year, SPU teams moved from celebration to documentation.
Local heritage. The College of Aviation, Tourism and Hospitality (CATH) recorded temple murals, palace-doll craftsmanship and local beliefs at learning sites in Ang Thong, Ayutthaya and Saraburi. The records became AR, AI-chatbot and 360° virtual-tour media, which the team presented at Travel & Tech Asia 2026 with a clear principle: technology should give community stories back their meaning, not replace them. At SPU Chonburi, staff and students worked with Khlong Tamru Municipality to turn the community’s fishing and salt-farming way of life into a contemporary heritage performance. The campus also taught traditional garland-making to secondary-school students.
Folklore and national heritage. Digital Media students reworked the Laplae folk legend for a national Local Legends project with the Department of Cultural Promotion, and partnered with the Thailand Creative Asset Promotion team to build creative IP from local wisdom. The Center for Arts and Culture kept Songkran, Makha Bucha and Khao Phansa candle traditions alive on campus and joined the national higher-education Thai arts and Thai music festivals. Students also performed the khim with the national Thai music ensemble and joined a public talk on Khon as cultural soft power.
Technology should give community stories back their meaning, not replace them.
Migrant and diaspora heritage. Sripatum International College (SPUIC) students researched and staged Chinese and Indian wedding traditions, explaining the meaning behind each ritual. Japanese exchange students taught Bon Odori to Thai peers.
The impact goes beyond single events. Communities gain digital records and new audiences for their wisdom. Young people learn traditions by practising them, and students build cultural-heritage skills for careers in tourism, design and media. This heritage education supports SPU’s Alpha Ready Roadmap: graduates who are creative and digitally fluent, and who stay rooted in community identity.
At SPU, safeguarding heritage means recording it, practising it and sharing it, so that every community’s story, local, national or carried across borders, continues to belong to the city it helps define.
