SPU Leads Thailand’s Universities in Reducing Disposable Waste
Sripatum University implements a bold policy to minimize disposable materials, aligning operations with the global Sustainable Development Goals through practical, eco-driven action.
As part of its climate-conscious mission, Sripatum University (SPU) has adopted a comprehensive Policy for the Minimisation of Disposable Items, overseen by the Office of Buildings. This transformative policy is deeply aligned with SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production — specifically 12.2.6, targeting disposable item reduction. It aims to optimize natural resource use and significantly cut down single-use waste on campus.
SPU’s day-to-day waste management complies with Bangkok’s municipal sanitation framework and includes waste collection, separation (recyclables, organic, general, and hazardous), and disposal. This contributes to SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities by improving environmental cleanliness and reducing disorder across university grounds and surrounding neighborhoods.
The initiative also addresses SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, ensuring safe disposal practices to prevent disease and pollution risks. Additionally, by limiting single-use plastics and non-recyclables, SPU tackles SDG 13: Climate Action, helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and long-term environmental harm.
Financial investment and awareness campaigns further reinforce this movement. Staff and students are encouraged to adopt eco-friendly behavior through educational outreach, shifting university culture toward sustainability — also supporting SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions through inclusive campus-wide policy.
SPU’s reduction in disposable item usage shows that impactful environmental action doesn’t require futuristic technology — only collective commitment, thoughtful policy, and sustained cooperation. It is a living model of how educational institutions can serve as vanguards of sustainable transformation.

ภายใต้พันธกิจด้านสิ่งแวดล้อม มหาวิทยาลัยศรีปทุม (SPU) ได้จัดทำนโยบายลดการใช้วัสดุที่ใช้แล้วทิ้งครอบคลุมทุกพื้นที่ โดยมีสำนักงานอาคารสถานที่เป็นผู้รับผิดชอบหลัก นโยบายนี้สอดคล้องกับ SDG 12: การบริโภคและการผลิตที่ยั่งยืน โดยเฉพาะเป้าหมายย่อย 12.2.6 ที่มุ่งลดวัสดุแบบใช้ครั้งเดียว ส่งเสริมการใช้ทรัพยากรอย่างคุ้มค่า และลดปริมาณขยะอย่างเป็นรูปธรรม
มหาวิทยาลัยยังดำเนินการจัดการขยะรายวันตามกรอบสำนักงานเขตจตุจักร พร้อมระบบแยกขยะที่รัดกุม ได้แก่ ขยะรีไซเคิล ขยะอินทรีย์ ขยะทั่วไป และขยะอันตราย ซึ่งช่วยเสริมเป้าหมาย SDG 11: เมืองและชุมชนที่ยั่งยืน โดยทำให้พื้นที่มหาวิทยาลัยสะอาด เป็นระเบียบ และเป็นมิตรต่อสิ่งแวดล้อม
