SPU Takes Bold Steps to Eliminate Plastic Waste on Campus
Sripatum University enforces a university-wide plastic reduction policy, positioning itself as a model for sustainable campus operations in alignment with multiple SDG targets.
Sripatum University (SPU) continues to demonstrate strong environmental leadership by introducing a campus-wide policy to eliminate single-use plastics. With oversight from the Office of Facilities, the initiative aligns with SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, specifically 12.2.5 — Plastic-use minimisation policy. The university’s strategy includes banning plastic bags, promoting biodegradable packaging, and installing water refill stations to discourage disposable bottle use.
In partnership with Bangkok’s Chatuchak District Office, SPU ensures daily waste collection and management that adheres to city hygiene and environmental standards. Plastic reduction is paired with proper waste segregation — recyclable, organic, hazardous, and general — boosting the impact of 12.2.4 (Landfill and recycling reduction policy) and 12.2.7 (Extension of policies to outsourced campus services).
The initiative also supports SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being by reducing environmental hazards linked to plastic pollution and SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities through cleaner urban practices. Educational campaigns such as “Green University” and “Reduce, Refrain, Stop Plastic” ensure staff and student participation — contributing to SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
SPU’s financial investment in awareness programs and sustainable packaging reflects SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, while its inclusive, university-wide implementation reinforces institutional accountability under SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions.
Through this plastic reduction campaign, Sripatum University shows that long-term change begins with policy and participation. Every refill, reuse, and refusal of plastic on campus brings SPU one step closer to a truly sustainable future.

มหาวิทยาลัยศรีปทุม (SPU) ตอกย้ำบทบาทมหาวิทยาลัยสีเขียว ด้วยการดำเนินนโยบายลดพลาสติกอย่างเข้มข้นครอบคลุมทุกพื้นที่ภายในมหาวิทยาลัย ภายใต้การบริหารของสำนักงานอาคารสถานที่ นโยบายนี้สอดคล้องกับ SDG 12: การบริโภคและการผลิตที่ยั่งยืน โดยเฉพาะเป้าหมายย่อย 12.2.5 ที่ว่าด้วย “นโยบายลดการใช้พลาสติก” ผ่านการงดใช้ถุงพลาสติกในร้านค้า การส่งเสริมบรรจุภัณฑ์ย่อยสลายได้ และติดตั้งจุดเติมน้ำดื่มเพื่อลดการใช้ขวดน้ำพลาสติกแบบใช้ครั้งเดียว
SPU ยังร่วมมือกับสำนักงานเขตจตุจักรในการจัดเก็บและบริหารจัดการขยะทุกวันตามมาตรฐานที่เข้มงวด พร้อมจัดการแยกขยะอย่างเป็นระบบ เช่น ขยะรีไซเคิล ขยะอินทรีย์ ขยะอันตราย และขยะทั่วไป ซึ่งช่วยลดปริมาณขยะฝังกลบ (12.2.4) และขยายผลสู่นโยบายที่ครอบคลุมถึงผู้รับเหมาภายนอก (12.2.7)
นอกจากนี้ยังสอดคล้องกับ SDG 3: สุขภาพและความเป็นอยู่ที่ดี ด้วยการลดความเสี่ยงจากขยะพลาสติกต่อสิ่งแวดล้อม และ SDG 11: เมืองและชุมชนที่ยั่งยืน จากการรักษาความสะอาดของพื้นที่มหาวิทยาลัยอย่างมีส่วนร่วม กิจกรรมรณรงค์ “Green University” และ “ลด ละ เลิก พลาสติก” ช่วยส่งเสริมการมีส่วนร่วมของนักศึกษาและบุคลากร ตอบโจทย์ SDG 4: การศึกษาที่มีคุณภาพ และ SDG 17: ความร่วมมือเพื่อการพัฒนาที่ยั่งยืน
การสนับสนุนงบประมาณเพื่อดำเนินโครงการ รวมถึงการลงทุนในบรรจุภัณฑ์ที่เป็นมิตรต่อสิ่งแวดล้อม สะท้อนเป้าหมาย SDG 8: การจ้างงานที่มีคุณค่าและการเติบโตทางเศรษฐกิจ และการดำเนินการอย่างทั่วถึงทั้งองค์กร แสดงถึงความรับผิดชอบของสถาบันตาม SDG 16: สันติภาพ ยุติธรรม และสถาบันที่เข้มแข็ง
