Free On-Campus Childcare at SPU: Building a Family-Friendly Workplace for Gender Equality

No parent at Sripatum University should have to choose between a career and a child. A free childcare space next to classrooms and offices keeps working mothers and fathers fully in the game.

Sripatum University (SPU) treats that gap as a workplace-equality issue. Instead of leaving parents to solve it alone, the university provides a dedicated childcare space on campus that staff and faculty can use free of charge.

The room is located within easy reach of teaching rooms and offices, is clearly signposted, and supports short-stay care during classes, meetings and office hours. Family-friendly corners for feeding and rest make it practical for parents of young children. Day-to-day operation sits with SPU’s Center for Wellness, giving the service clear ownership. The same family-friendly approach extends to student-parents, and the Center for Wellness also joins family-centred community activities such as the “Sripatum Sends Happiness to the Community #2” day in January 2026.

At SPU, gender equality is something staff can walk into.

The outcome is a workplace where caregiving is treated as a normal part of working life rather than a reason to step back. Mothers can return to teaching sooner and with less stress, fathers and non-gestational parents are equally welcome to share the load, and SPU keeps the experience and talent of its people. SPU will continue to listen to staff needs and refine the service so that care and careers can grow together.

At SPU, gender equality is something staff can walk into. A free childcare space, steps from the classroom, turns an everyday barrier into everyday support for every working parent.
