From mussel-shell waste on the Samut Songkhram shoreline to national sustainability forums, Sripatum University works alongside civil society to help communities adapt to a changing climate.

Climate change is reshaping Thailand’s coastlines, and adaptation cannot be left to governments alone. Sripatum University (SPU) works with non-governmental organisations, citizen networks and local communities. Together they turn climate knowledge into practical resilience. This work is guided by the university’s Energy and Environmental Conservation Policy and the SPU Alpha Ready Roadmap. Under that roadmap, the university is expected to serve society as an active partner in sustainable development.
In February 2026, the Faculty of Engineering joined the Kai Fa Group, a volunteer citizens’ group formed by King Prajadhipok’s Institute alumni (PorNorPor 15). The activity took place at Wat Sattha Tham, Samut Songkhram, together with government partners and local residents. The faculty led a hands-on workshop on turning mussel-shell waste, which piles up along the shore, into interlocking building blocks. The work reduces waste pressure on a fragile, erosion-prone coastal ecosystem and offers a locally suited construction material. It also opens new livelihood options for coastal households, which strengthens community adaptive capacity.
SPU also contributes to wider civil-society dialogue on climate. Its engineering leadership took part in the SDSN Thailand Public Forum 2025, which covered climate response, biodiversity and a just energy transition. SPU teams joined the ASCN & SUN Thailand Conference, where a Chonburi campus team won a silver award for a low-carbon heritage project at Tha Kha Floating Market. On campus, SPU partnered with ECOLIFE to bring “Gen Z to Net Zero” habits to new students. Each partnership links academic expertise with citizen action. Together they raise climate awareness, support disaster risk reduction and build local resilience, contributing to SDG 13 Climate Action and SDG 17 Partnerships for the Goals.
SPU sees climate adaptation as shared work.
By standing with NGOs and communities, the university intends to keep turning knowledge into resilience, one shoreline, one network and one generation at a time.
