Mentors, Scholarships and New Pathways: How Sripatum University Opens Higher Education to Women

From women-led mentoring and fully funded places to AI training with national women’s networks and a Women’s Day dialogue on careers in aviation, SPU is removing the barriers that keep women from starting, staying and succeeding at university.

Cost, distance, family expectations and a shortage of visible role models still keep many women away from higher education, especially in technology, engineering and aviation. Guided by its Alpha Ready Roadmap, Sripatum University (SPU) treats women’s access as a set of practical supports rather than a statement of intent, bringing mentoring, financial aid and wider opportunities together so that more women can enter university with confidence.

Mentoring is where that support begins. The Women’s Mentoring Scheme, coordinated by the Wellness Counseling Center, connects female students with women mentors and professional nurses through confidential counselling, small-group conversations and peer networks on wellbeing, stress and self-confidence. Scholarships open the door further: full-tuition awards for students from the Southern Border Provinces and the Rajaprajanugroh Foundation, together with faculty talent awards such as Engineer Spark and SPU Tech Talent, help women from low-income and remote families reach university and STEM programmes.

Beyond these, SPU creates wider routes into learning. In September 2025 it partnered with the Department of Women’s Affairs and Family Development, the Federation of Business and Professional Women’s Associations of Thailand and the ASEAN Women Entrepreneurs Network to train women entrepreneurs in practical AI, with SPU business students coaching participants side by side. In March 2026, SPU aviation students joined ICAO Asia-Pacific’s International Women’s Day dialogue on women’s roles in aviation, and in July 2026 new students received free, confidential health screening and counselling from a civil society partner during Freshy Day.

The result is a campus where women help women.

Together, these schemes give women a mentor to turn to, funding to rely on and opportunities that fit their lives. First-year students feel safe to ask for support, and fields once seen as “not for women” become realistic choices. This is good practice SPU will continue to strengthen, by widening scholarship reach and growing women-led mentoring across every faculty.

At SPU, gender equality in education starts at the front door. By pairing care with capability, the university is making sure every woman who wants to learn can walk in, stay and lead.

New students performing on stage at SPU Freshy Day

Freshy Day
