Shared Decisions, Stronger Communities: How SPU Builds Participatory Decision-Making with Local Stakeholders

From curriculum committee rooms to neighbourhood safety boards, Sripatum University makes sure the people it serves help shape what it does next.

A participant asks a question from the floor at the Election 69 education policy forumAt Sripatum University (SPU), stakeholder involvement is built into how the university decides. Its policy on engagement with local stakeholders (SPU Announcement 063/2566) commits SPU to consult, hold dialogue and run joint projects with communities, so that decisions are inclusive and fair. The commitment runs through academic governance. Every curriculum revision is reviewed by a curriculum critique committee and shaped by feedback from employers, alumni and industry partners. It then moves to the Academic Council and the University Council for approval. Graduate-employer surveys, external quality reviewers and the Rector’s Direct Line, which is open to anyone, keep outside voices flowing into planning.

During 2025–2026, SPU extended this participatory approach beyond campus. On 8 July 2026, the university hosted the Bang Khen Police Station Oversight Committee (Kor Tor Tor) meeting in its Building 11 boardroom. At that meeting, community representatives, the private sector and police jointly reviewed local safety work. In Chonburi, SPU leaders met Ang Sila Municipality and the Provincial Police Region 2 Training Centre to agree on shared priorities for youth development, academic services and community safety. SPU’s Faculty of Law co-hosted the “Election 69” education policy forum with civil society networks and Thai PBS, which opened a public space for citizens to question policy-makers. The Faculty of Entrepreneurship also began building an urban well-being knowledge network with the National Health Commission Office.

A university grows stronger when its neighbours have a seat at the table.

These mechanisms turn collaborative governance into practical outcomes. The results include programmes aligned with real community and labour-market needs, safer neighbourhoods around campus, and stronger trust between the university and its neighbours. This participatory decision-making supports SPU’s Alpha Ready University direction, where learning is co-designed with the people it serves.

SPU believes a university grows stronger when its neighbours have a seat at the table, and it will keep opening those seats wider.
