Check dams in the forest, training for the people behind Bangkok’s water supply, and engineering ideas shared with the public: SPU carries its water-saving culture far beyond the campus.

At Sripatum University (SPU), water stewardship does not end at the campus gate. The university saves and reuses water in its own buildings, and it wants the same awareness to reach the communities, agencies and young people around it. Water security depends on healthy headwater forests, efficient public supply and cities that work with rainfall rather than against it. This outreach follows SPU’s Academic Services to Society policy and supports the Alpha Ready Roadmap’s aim of graduates who act for society.
In January 2026, student leaders from the College of Aviation, Tourism and Hospitality and the Rotaract Club of SPU joined the Royal Thai Army Civil Affairs Department in Lopburi. They built check dams and propagated and planted seedlings to restore headwater forest at the Sap Langka Wildlife Sanctuary, improved the grounds of a village school, and learned how the King’s philosophy links forests, water sources and livelihoods. In Kanchanaburi, the Nature and Environmental Conservation Club built check dams with officers at the Khao Nam Phu station to keep water upstream and slow erosion. In Bangkok, the College of Logistics and Supply Chain co-designed a professional development curriculum for staff of the Metropolitan Waterworks Authority. The Faculty of Engineering shares water knowledge with the public through case studies on flood-resilient cities, such as porous paving and smart drainage. At SPU Giving Day it showed a pipe-joint design that reduces water loss in supply systems. On campus, student clubs host talks on sustainable resource management that prepare volunteers for this work.
These activities turn water conservation into practical, shared action. Communities gain structures that hold water in the landscape, public water staff gain new skills, and readers gain ideas for living with water more wisely. Students learn integrated water resource management through real work and take it home. Next, SPU plans to bring its check-dam and water-loss know-how to more communities around its campuses.
Water is precious, and using it wisely is everyone’s work.
From a check dam in a headwater stream to the training of those who keep a city’s taps running, every action carries one message: water is precious, and using it wisely is everyone’s work. Sripatum University will keep spreading that message beyond its campus.
