SDG 15 Progress Report 2025/26: How Sripatum University Greens Its Campus, Restores Forests and Wildlife Habitat, and Works with Communities to Protect Life on Land

Reporting period: 1 August 2025 – 31 July 2026

One page, one year, every SDG 15 measure. This is SPU’s public account of how it cares for the land it manages, keeps waste out of soil and water, and helps restore the forests and parks beyond its gates.

Liberal Arts student leaders plant trees together to create green space at Wat Ban Na, Pak Chong

Students work together on the forest floor to make a salt lick for wild animals at Khao Nam PhuSripatum University (SPU) is a city campus, but its students, staff and partners reach forests, national parks and farming communities across Thailand. SPU reports its SDG 15 progress openly every year. This report covers the 2025/26 academic year and follows the three areas Times Higher Education measures under SDG 15:

  • supporting land ecosystems through education
  • supporting land ecosystems through action
  • land-sensitive waste disposal

Under the Alpha Ready Roadmap, the Office of Building and Facilities, the Student Development Centre, faculties and the SPU Chonburi campus share this work.

Caring for the land we manage

  • A green campus that uses less water: Automatic sprinklers and drought-tolerant planting keep green spaces healthy. Harvested rainwater and treated water irrigate the trees, which reduces demand on the city supply.
  • Native trees first, invaders kept out: SPU’s campus biodiversity guidelines favour native trees, protect mature trees and control invasive alien species. Green space is part of campus planning, not an afterthought.
  • Keeping waste out of soil and water: The SPU Announcement on Sustainable Resource Procurement and Waste Management (9 September 2023) asks every unit to cut plastic. It also requires chemical, laboratory and electronic waste to be separated and sent to certified disposal centres. Every building treats its wastewater to national discharge standards before release.

Restoring forests and wildlife habitat

  • Khao Nam Phu, Kanchanaburi (6–7 November 2025): The SPU Nature and Environment Conservation Club worked with the Khao Nam Phu Wildlife Conservation Development and Extension Station. Students built check dams to slow runoff and soil erosion, made salt licks that give wild animals essential minerals, and shot seed balls into degraded forest to bring back native plants.
  • Headwater forest, Lop Buri (28–30 January 2026): Student leaders from the College of Aviation, Tourism and Hospitality and the Rotaract Club of SPU joined the Royal Thai Army’s Civil Affairs Department. At the Sap Langka Wildlife Sanctuary they raised and planted seedlings and built check dams.
  • Mangrove forests: Students from several faculties and SPU Chonburi planted mangroves along the Gulf of Thailand coast during the year. This included World Forestry Day on 21 March 2026.
  • Greener community spaces: Liberal Arts student leaders planted trees to create shaded green space at Wat Ban Na in Pak Chong, Nakhon Ratchasima (academic year 2025).

Learning and working with partners

  • Erawan National Park (18–25 January 2026): Sripatum University International College trained park personnel in English for nature tourism. They practised explaining park rules, wildlife protection, waste disposal and responsible behaviour to international visitors.
  • Eco-tourism with Khlong Tamru: SPU Chonburi presented an eco-tourism research design to the Khlong Tamru Subdistrict Municipality Council (26 September 2025), followed by community fieldwork (16 October 2025). The project builds tourism on the area’s natural and cultural assets.
  • Research and design for wildlife: Faculty of Information Technology lecturer Nonthakorn Lertwachiraphaiboon presented Solar-Net Guardian, a solar-powered smart lighting and surveillance system for protected wildlife areas, at SUN Thailand’s 10th conference (February 2026). Interior design thesis THE BIO NEXUS (January 2026) proposed a centre to shelter, rehabilitate and breed wildlife displaced by forest loss.
  • Youth and public dialogue: The SPU GreenTech Gen Z Challenge 2026 (12 March 2026) invited students to design AI ideas for environmental problems. The Faculty of Engineering joined the SDSN Thailand Public Forum (November 2025) on the green transition.

Reporting in public

SPU released its annual SPU SDGs Report as a free public PDF. SDG 15 stories also appear on the SPU SDGs website under Goal 15.

Next year, SPU aims to:

  • publish an updated campus green-space and tree record
  • turn forest-restoration trips into long-term partnerships with conservation stations
  • widen nature learning for students, park staff and local communities

Every seed we sow today is a forest someone will walk through tomorrow.

At Sripatum University, reporting on SDG 15 is a promise kept in public. Each year we show how we care for our own land, keep waste out of the soil, and stand with forest, park and community partners to protect the life that depends on the land.
