At Sripatum University, waste management starts with a simple rule written into policy: know how much waste goes to landfill, and how much comes back as recyclable material.
Sripatum University (SPU) set out its commitment in the Sustainable Resource Procurement and Waste Management Policy, announced on 9 September 2023 under the University Council’s direction. Clause 3 focuses on measuring and tracking the amount of waste sent to landfill and the amount recycled, so that waste management becomes more efficient and landfill disposal falls through separation and recycling across the whole institution. The Office of Buildings and Facilities leads implementation and keeps the policy under continuous monitoring and evaluation.
On campus, measurement begins at the bin. Waste is separated at source into four streams — recyclable, organic, hazardous and general — and each stream is recorded every month, including food waste, recyclables and waste bound for landfill. Paper, plastic bottles, glass and metal are collected through the SPU Waste Bank, keeping recyclable materials out of landfill and returning them to productive use, while only residual waste is handed to the Chatuchak District Office for collection under Bangkok regulations. Campus campaigns keep the habit alive — from the “Go Green – No Plastic” tumbler drive for staff to the ECOLIFE in U launch at Freshy Day 2026 and a waste-sorting game run for children in neighbouring communities.
The monthly records give the university a clear picture of where its waste ends up, show which streams can be diverted next, guide procurement and operational choices, and are shared openly on SPU’s SDGs website. This data-led approach supports responsible consumption and production and forms part of SPU’s Alpha Ready Roadmap toward a sustainable, smart campus.

By turning measurement into everyday practice, SPU is steadily shrinking its landfill footprint and showing how a university can manage waste as a resource, not a burden.

มหาวิทยาลัยศรีปทุมประกาศนโยบายการจัดหาทรัพยากรและการจัดการขยะอย่างยั่งยืน เมื่อวันที่ 9 กันยายน 2566 ตามที่คณะกรรมการมหาวิทยาลัยกำหนด ข้อ 3 มุ่งเน้นการตรวจวัดและติดตามปริมาณขยะที่ถูกส่งเข้าสู่การฝังกลบและขยะที่ถูกรีไซเคิล เพื่อให้การจัดการขยะมีประสิทธิภาพยิ่งขึ้นและลดขยะฝังกลบ ผ่านการคัดแยกและการรีไซเคิลอย่างทั่วถึง โดยสำนักงานอาคารสถานที่เป็นผู้รับผิดชอบดำเนินการ และติดตามประเมินผลนโยบายอย่างต่อเนื่อง
การวัดเริ่มต้นที่ถังขยะ ขยะถูกคัดแยกตั้งแต่ต้นทางเป็น 4 ประเภท ได้แก่ ขยะรีไซเคิล ขยะอินทรีย์ ขยะอันตราย และขยะทั่วไป และบันทึกปริมาณทุกเดือน ทั้งขยะอาหาร ขยะรีไซเคิล และขยะที่ส่งไปฝังกลบ กระดาษ ขวดพลาสติก แก้ว และโลหะ ถูกรวบรวมผ่านธนาคารขยะ SPU เพื่อนำวัสดุกลับไปใช้ประโยชน์แทนการฝังกลบ เหลือเพียงขยะที่ใช้ประโยชน์ไม่ได้ส่งให้สำนักงานเขตจตุจักรจัดเก็บตามข้อกำหนดของกรุงเทพมหานคร
การรณรงค์ในมหาวิทยาลัยช่วยให้พฤติกรรมนี้ยั่งยืน ตั้งแต่แคมเปญ Go Green – No Plastic มอบกระบอกน้ำแก่บุคลากร การเปิดตัว ECOLIFE in U ในงาน Freshy Day 2026 ไปจนถึงเกมคัดแยกขยะกับเด็กในชุมชนรอบมหาวิทยาลัย
ข้อมูลรายเดือนทำให้มหาวิทยาลัยเห็นชัดว่าขยะไปที่ใด ประเภทใดเบี่ยงออกจากการฝังกลบได้เพิ่ม และใช้ประกอบการตัดสินใจด้านการจัดซื้อและการดำเนินงาน พร้อมเผยแพร่อย่างโปร่งใสบนเว็บไซต์ SDGs ของมหาวิทยาลัย แนวทางที่ใช้ข้อมูลนำนี้สนับสนุนการผลิตและการบริโภคอย่างรับผิดชอบ และเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของแผน Alpha Ready Roadmap สู่มหาวิทยาลัยอัจฉริยะที่ยั่งยืน
