SPU Champions Smart Water Use to Build a Resource-Efficient Future
Sripatum University (SPU) has reinforced its campus-wide commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by adopting a comprehensive water conservation policy, with a particular focus on SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation. Through strategic planning, engineering control, and behavioral change, SPU is shaping a water-smart community from the inside out.
Key to this effort is SPU’s multi-level approach to water efficiency. Buildings are equipped with pressure-regulated water systems to minimize excess flow, while sensor-activated faucets reduce waste in bathrooms and public areas. An automated sprinkler system—configured to run only during optimal times—helps maintain green spaces without unnecessary water use. These practices directly support SDG 6.4.1, enhancing water-use efficiency across all facilities.
Education and engagement also play a critical role. The university regularly organizes awareness campaigns that target students and staff, fostering a deeper sense of environmental responsibility. This initiative aligns with SDG 12.2.1, focusing on responsible consumption of natural resources.
Notably, SPU’s Facility Department conducts routine inspections and maintenance to detect leaks, ensure safe water systems, and maximize performance—demonstrating operational excellence as a form of sustainability leadership.
By combining infrastructure upgrades with institutional culture shifts, SPU is building a model for modern water stewardship—one that doesn’t just conserve water, but also conserves the future.
