Sripatum University (SPU) is actively advancing sustainable commuting practices by setting measurable targets to reduce vehicle traffic on campus. Through the implementation of efficient vehicle management systems, including controlled access at gated entries, SPU monitors and manages vehicle flow to encourage public transportation use and reduce private vehicle reliance. The convenient location of a BTS station at the university entrance further facilitates this shift, offering students and staff a reliable alternative to driving.
SPU’s efforts are yielding results: in 2023, the number of cars entering the campus decreased by 7,104 compared to 2022, reflecting a clear trend toward public transit and alternative commuting options. These results underscore SPU’s commitment to sustainable transportation, as the university aims to reduce campus traffic, cut carbon emissions, and promote eco-friendly travel behaviors.
This initiative aligns with SDG 11.4.1, which encourages universities to set sustainable commuting targets to minimize environmental impact. SPU’s strategy in sustainable commuting serves as a model for energy-efficient and environmentally conscious campus operations, fostering a cleaner, greener community.
