From headwater forests in Kanchanaburi and Lop Buri to the neighbourhoods around its Bangkok campus, SPU students and staff are building check dams, cutting leaks and sharing know-how to conserve water where people need it most.

Water security starts upstream. A healthy headwater forest holds rain in the soil, feeds streams through the dry season and protects the communities downstream. Sripatum University (SPU) treats this as part of its public responsibility. Under its Energy and Environment Conservation Policy (Announcement 100/2565), and in line with the Alpha Ready Roadmap, SPU sends its students and staff into practical water-conservation work beyond its campuses.

In November 2025, SPU’s Nature and Environment Conservation Club travelled to the Khao Nam Phu Wildlife Conservation Development and Promotion Station in Si Sawat, Kanchanaburi. Working alongside local conservation officers, students built check dams that slow run-off, help water soak into the ground and reduce soil erosion in the headwater area. They also seeded degraded forest to bring back plant cover. In January 2026, student leaders from the College of Aviation, Tourism and Hospitality and the Rotaract Club of SPU joined the Royal Thai Army’s Civil Affairs Department at Sap Langka Wildlife Sanctuary in Lop Buri. There they raised seedlings, planted trees and built check dams to restore the watershed, putting the King’s philosophy of water management into practice. Closer to campus, the Office of Buildings and Facilities runs water-saving campaigns with neighbouring communities on fixing leaks, choosing low-water plants and tracking household use. The School of Engineering shares a BIM-based pipe-joint design that reduces water loss in supply systems, offered as a model for the Bang Bua Saphan Mai 1 community.
The result is more than a list of activities. Each check dam keeps water in the landscape for longer, helping forests, wildlife and farming communities through the dry months. Each leak fixed means water saved at home. Students come back with hands-on understanding of how land, water and people connect, and with the confidence to lead such work themselves. SPU plans to return to partner sites, invite more faculties and community groups to take part, and link this fieldwork with its engineering and design teaching.
Each check dam keeps water in the landscape for longer.
At Sripatum University, conserving water does not stop at the campus gate. By working with government agencies, conservation stations and local communities, SPU helps keep water in the land today and builds a generation ready to protect it tomorrow.
