From a housing community in Bang Bua to an auditorium of engineers, SPU brings sustainable development out of the classroom and into the lives of people who are not its students.

Sustainable development cannot rest on enrolled students alone. Sripatum University’s Lifelong Learning Policy (SPU Announcement 99/2022) commits the university to being a source of learning for students, staff, alumni and the general public. It promises to teach on the basis of equality, without discrimination by origin, ethnicity, migration status or any other personal circumstance. Under the Alpha Ready Reinventing Roadmap, which positions SPU as a co-creation platform with government, business and society, faculties turn this commitment into capacity building with partners beyond the campus.
In the 2025/26 academic year, this work reached two groups.
Local communities and young people
- In August 2025, the Faculty of Communication Arts and the School of Entrepreneurship handed SDG learning media to the Khlong Sam Wa District Office and local school leaders, for use with Gen Alpha pupils. First-year students designed and produced the media.
- In September 2025, five units (Accountancy, Information Technology, Logistics and Supply Chain, Engineering and Entrepreneurship) launched the youth volunteer project “Smart Community Connect” with a community enterprise. Students and members of the enterprise worked together on household bookkeeping, data dashboards, delivery routes, drip-irrigation smart farming and online marketing. The College of Logistics returned in July 2026 to plan the next phase of the work.
- In January 2026, seven units ran “SPU Sends Happiness to the Community #2” at the Bang Bua Housing Community. Children, parents and residents learned waste sorting through games, made key rings from discarded materials, and played thinking-skills board games alongside free health checks.
- The Faculty of Information Technology’s SPU GreenTech Gen Z Challenge 2026 coached upper-secondary and vocational students, with no coding background required, to design AI solutions for climate action, life below water and life on land. The final pitching took place on campus in March 2026.
Alumni
- The School of Engineering invited alumni, students and industry to a seminar on ISO 9001:2026 and IATF 16949. It was run with TradeMaster International, Equal Assurance and NECTEC-NSTDA, and covered smart energy and real-time carbon monitoring.
- In June 2026, the School of Engineering and the Green Engineers Club trained alumni and practising engineers to use AI responsibly in their professional development.
The outcome is learning that stays useful after the event: families take home waste-sorting habits, teachers in Khlong Sam Wa have ready-made media for their classrooms, a community enterprise gains digital and logistics tools for a more resilient business, young people learn to treat climate and biodiversity as problems they can help solve, and alumni renew their skills for low-carbon, data-driven industry.
Partnership multiplies what one university can teach.
The good practice is simple: every activity pairs SPU expertise with a partner who already serves the target group. SPU’s next step is to extend this model to displaced and migrant communities, as its lifelong-learning policy already promises.
By opening its knowledge to alumni, neighbours and the next generation, Sripatum University treats the Sustainable Development Goals as a shared project. Partnership multiplies what one university can teach.
