Term-by-term tracking, early alerts and practical financial support help Sripatum University’s Student Loan Fund borrowers stay enrolled and finish their degrees.

Getting into university is only the first hurdle for students from the poorest Thai households. The harder part is staying enrolled when money runs short. Sripatum University (SPU) has set a university-wide target to change that: every student identified as low-income through the Student Loan Fund (SLF) means test should progress each term and graduate. The Scholarship Office owns this target. SPU’s registry runs dashboards and cohort analyses that flag students at risk of falling behind, and passes those alerts to deans and academic advisers so they can step in early.
In the 2025/26 academic year, this target was backed by concrete action:
- September 2025: an SLF delegation visited SPU and met borrowers to review their academic progress and wellbeing. It also coached them on financial planning and agreed faster document checks.
- June 2026: the Scholarship Office brought Krungthai Bank onto campus so new borrowers could open the account they need to receive loan and living-allowance payments on time.
- Fee instalment plans run by the Finance Office.
- Full-degree scholarships for students supported by the Rajaprajanugroh Foundation under Royal Patronage and the Southern Border Provinces programme.
- Earn to Learn paid work and co-op placements, which help students cover their costs while they study.
These measures turn an ambitious target into a support system students can actually use. They advance SDG 1 (No Poverty) and SDG 4 (Quality Education), and they reflect the student-success goals of SPU’s Alpha Ready Roadmap.
At SPU, a family’s income should shape how much support a student receives, never whether that student reaches graduation day.
As a next step, SPU plans to link scholarship and loan data more closely with advising records, so that every borrower who struggles receives help before a problem becomes a reason to leave.

Alpha Ready Roadmap
