Research That Shapes Public Decisions: Sripatum University Partners with Government on Policy-Focused Research

From power transmission lines to public housing and community tourism, SPU researchers work alongside state agencies and local government so that policy rests on sound evidence.

SPU Research Promotion Center meets the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand on applied research cooperation

Sripatum University (SPU) sees research as a public good: its value lies in helping government make better, fairer decisions. Under the Alpha Ready Roadmap, SPU encourages faculties, colleges and its Research Promotion Center to design studies with public agencies from the start. That way, real policy and operational questions shape the research, and the findings go back to the people who make decisions.

SPU research team awarded an EGAT grant for the E-Trone and VRP transmission-line maintenance projectIn August 2025, the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) awarded a research grant to an SPU team for the project “Development of the E-Trone System and VRP for Power Transmission Line Maintenance”. The team is led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Wanayut Saengngoen of the Faculty of Engineering, with researchers from the College of Logistics and Supply Chain. In the same period, SPU carried out a study for the National Housing Authority. It assessed the needs, satisfaction, expectations and engagement of residents in the Authority’s housing schemes and comparable projects, to inform the Authority’s housing strategy.

Locally, Asst. Prof. Dr. Jirapong Channgam and the Faculty of Accountancy team at SPU Chonburi presented research on a community-based ecotourism model to the Khlong Tamru Subdistrict Municipality council. The council approved the project, and the mayor assigned a municipal coordination team to work with the researchers in the field. National Fundamental Fund (FF) grants for fiscal year 2026 also support SPU studies relevant to policy: intergenerational approaches to older people’s quality of life in Khlong Sam Wa District, a decision support system for Thailand’s fragrant coconut logistics, and cultural tourism innovation for an ageing society. SPU’s Research Promotion Center has also agreed a direction for applied research cooperation with the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand.

Research is a public good: its value lies in helping government make better, fairer decisions.

This research builds on SPU’s long-standing engagement with public institutions. Examples include the Faculty of Law’s participation in the Supreme Court’s “Together in Mediation 2025” programme, and the Faculty of Engineering’s academic cooperation with the Expressway Authority of Thailand on intelligent transport and traffic data. SPU will keep co-designing research with government at every level, so that evidence-based, inclusive policy reaches communities across Thailand.
