With a clear target to cut cars on campus by 10%, an automated vehicle gate to measure progress and a BTS station at the front door, Sripatum University is steadily moving its community toward walking and public transport.
Sustainable transport begins with knowing how people travel. At Sripatum University (SPU), commuting is part of energy and carbon management. The University Energy Management Committee oversees targets to reduce energy use and emissions, and the Office of Building and Facilities records campus energy and carbon performance every month. SPU’s roadmap toward carbon neutrality extends emissions accounting step by step to Scope 3, which covers the daily journeys of students and staff.

The University Energy Management Committee has set a clear target: reduce the number of cars entering campus by 10%. Progress is measured through an automated gate and vehicle management system run by the Office of Building and Facilities, which records every vehicle that enters. These records show how private car traffic changes each year, and year-on-year comparisons already show a drop.
Public transport makes the shift practical: Bang Bua station on the BTS Green Line stands right at SPU’s main entrance, and the university publishes a “Travel to SPU” guide with BTS and MRT routes, travel times, fares and interchange points so students can plan car-free trips. Inside the gates, motorcycles and most vehicles are kept out of the academic zones, wide shaded walkways link the buildings, and the Office of Human Resources runs walking programmes such as “SPU (Count) Steps for Health” and “Happy Walk Hour @SPU”, recording participation over time.
The University Energy Management Committee has set a clear target: reduce the number of cars entering campus by 10%.
The outcome is a campus with less congestion, cleaner air and a healthier community, in line with the Alpha Ready Roadmap’s vision of SPU as a smart, livable university and a partner for smart-city development. The next step is a fuller greenhouse gas inventory under the Energy, Environment and Greenhouse Gas Management Committee, which will deepen commuting data and sharpen the targets that guide sustainable urban mobility at SPU.
By measuring how its community moves and putting rail transit at its doorstep, SPU turns every trip to campus into a small step toward a low-carbon, livable city.
