SPU Cultivates Sustainability with On-Campus Organic Farming Initiative
Sripatum University (SPU) continues to lead Thailand’s higher education sector in sustainability with its “Sustainably Farmed Food on Campus” project—an initiative that transforms university land into a living laboratory of organic agriculture, climate action, and food responsibility. The project not only supplies safe, local produce but also aligns strongly with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
By growing native crops such as bananas and mangoes without chemical fertilizers or pesticides, SPU contributes directly to SDG 2 (Zero Hunger). This local food production reduces dependence on external supply chains, ensuring safer, fresher food for students and staff while promoting food security and sovereignty.
The initiative also directly supports SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) by promoting the use of rainwater for irrigation, composting organic waste into natural fertilizer, and optimizing campus resource use. Through methods such as solar-powered operations and waste minimization, the university embodies sustainable practices across every stage of food production.
SPU’s green space management is also a response to SDG 13 (Climate Action), as increased vegetation contributes to carbon capture while reducing the environmental impact of food transport. The cultivation of native plants further enhances biodiversity, lowers emissions, and builds ecosystem resilience.
Importantly, this project isn’t limited to operations. SPU integrates hands-on learning into its agricultural program, inviting students to participate in research, fieldwork, and eco-friendly food production—fostering a new generation of sustainability-minded leaders.
From its soil to its classrooms, SPU is cultivating more than just crops—it’s cultivating a culture of sustainability and shaping the future of campus ecosystems through innovation, inclusion, and impact.

SPU ปลูกอนาคตยั่งยืนผ่านโครงการเกษตรอินทรีย์ในมหาวิทยาลัย
มหาวิทยาลัยศรีปทุม (SPU) เดินหน้านำมหาวิทยาลัยไทยสู่การพัฒนาอย่างยั่งยืน ด้วยโครงการ “Sustainably Farmed Food on Campus” ที่เปลี่ยนพื้นที่มหาวิทยาลัยให้กลายเป็นแปลงเกษตรอินทรีย์ต้นแบบ ทั้งในด้านความมั่นคงทางอาหาร การลดคาร์บอน และการเรียนรู้เพื่ออนาคต ตามแนวทางเป้าหมายการพัฒนาที่ยั่งยืนของสหประชาชาติ (SDGs)
ด้วยการปลูกพืชท้องถิ่นอย่างกล้วยและมะม่วงโดยไม่ใช้สารเคมี โครงการนี้สนับสนุนเป้าหมาย SDG 2 (ขจัดความหิวโหย) โดยช่วยลดการพึ่งพาอาหารจากภายนอก และเพิ่มการเข้าถึงอาหารปลอดภัยและมีคุณภาพสำหรับนักศึกษาและบุคลากรภายในมหาวิทยาลัย
ในขณะเดียวกัน โครงการนี้ยังสอดคล้องกับ SDG 12 (การผลิตและการบริโภคที่ยั่งยืน) ผ่านการใช้น้ำฝนรดน้ำพืช การจัดการขยะอินทรีย์เพื่อทำปุ๋ยธรรมชาติ และการใช้พลังงานแสงอาทิตย์ในการดำเนินงาน เป็นระบบการผลิตที่ใช้ทรัพยากรอย่างคุ้มค่าและลดของเสีย
พื้นที่สีเขียวที่เพิ่มขึ้นยังช่วยดูดซับก๊าซเรือนกระจกตามเป้าหมาย SDG 13 (การรับมือกับการเปลี่ยนแปลงสภาพภูมิอากาศ) การปลูกพืชพื้นเมืองยังช่วยเสริมสร้างความหลากหลายทางชีวภาพ และลดผลกระทบจากระบบขนส่งอาหาร
ความโดดเด่นอีกประการคือการบูรณาการการเรียนรู้เข้าไว้ในโครงการ โดยเปิดโอกาสให้นักศึกษาเข้าร่วมกิจกรรม ทดลอง และวิจัยด้านเกษตรยั่งยืน สร้างเยาวชนที่ตระหนักรู้และลงมือจริงในเรื่องสิ่งแวดล้อม
โครงการนี้ไม่เพียงแต่สร้างผลผลิตทางการเกษตร แต่ยังสร้างรากฐานของวัฒนธรรมการพัฒนาที่ยั่งยืนที่หยั่งรากอยู่ในดิน วิจัย และจิตวิญญาณของมหาวิทยาลัยศรีปทุม
