Sustainability Education for Every Student: How SPU Builds SDG Literacy Into the Whole Curriculum

From the first week on campus to the final work placement, every Sripatum student meets the Sustainable Development Goals as part of how they learn.

SPU students work with army civil-affairs staff carrying bamboo to build check-dams in a forest area in Lopburi

At Sripatum University (SPU), education for sustainability is part of the core of each degree, not an optional extra. The university’s mission commits it to social responsibility guided by the SDGs. Its Excellence Development Plan 2026–2030, the Alpha Ready Roadmap, puts “SDGs & Global Citizenship Integration” into the design of every programme. It also lists SDG literacy, environmental awareness and civic responsibility among the skills each graduate should carry into working life.

A lecturer takes questions from first-year students during a Future Skills sessionThat commitment shows up in what students actually do. In 2025/26 the whole first-year class took an SDG literacy check inside the course “Future Skills”. Students matched everyday actions to the goals they serve, such as cleaner city transport, open online learning and reusable cups. The results went to a learning dashboard, and lecturers followed up with short targeted lessons where understanding was weakest. General Education adds courses on circular economy, energy and global citizenship, and SPU’s GE team has published a green-skills framework to guide them. Work-integrated learning, recognised in 2026 with a national CWIE award, takes every programme into real workplaces. At Freshy Day 2026, SPU and the Ministry of Higher Education launched ECOLIFE in U, which invites all students to record low-carbon habits that add up to a campus-wide environmental record.

Across the faculties, students turn this learning into action:

  • First-year Communication Arts students told SDG-linked stories at NITED TALK 2026.
  • Tourism and hospitality students planted forest and built check-dams with the army’s civil-affairs unit.
  • Liberal Arts students ran cross-cultural projects for children.
  • SPU joined SUN Thailand at UN Thailand’s Pact for the Future dialogue.

Sustainability is learned through practice, not only in lectures.

Together these show sustainability being learned through practice, not only in lectures. This supports SPU’s aim to graduate professionals who act responsibly for society and the planet.

At SPU, every student meets the SDGs as part of a normal degree, so graduates leave able to understand sustainability and act on it.

New students gather at Freshy Day 2026, where ECOLIFE in U was launchedตั้งแต่สัปดาห์แรกในมหาวิทยาลัยจนถึงการฝึกปฏิบัติงานจริง นักศึกษาศรีปทุมทุกคนได้เรียนรู้เป้าหมายการพัฒนาที่ยั่งยืนเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของการเรียน มหาวิทยาลัยศรีปทุมวางการศึกษาเพื่อความยั่งยืนไว้ในแก่นของทุกหลักสูตร ตั้งแต่พันธกิจ แผนพัฒนาความเป็นเลิศ ไปจนถึงรายวิชาและกิจกรรมที่นักศึกษาทุกคนได้ลงมือทำจริง

  • มหาวิทยาลัยร่วมกับ SUN Thailand ในเวที Pact for the Future ของสหประชาชาติประจำประเทศไทย
