From Local Factories to UN Climate Dialogue: SPU Turns Energy Data into Clean Energy Policy at Every Level

Sripatum University works with the Federation of Thai Industries, the Ministry of Energy and international partners to turn energy evidence from local manufacturers into practical, policy-ready support for a cleaner, more efficient Thailand.

Energy conservation training for industrial utilities led by SPU

AI for Industrial Energy Management with DEDE, GIZ and FTILocal and regional level: evidence for SME energy policy. Manufacturing SMEs are the backbone of Thailand’s local economies, yet they often lack the data and skills to cut energy waste. SPU, through its Research Promotion and Quality Assurance Center and Asst. Prof. Dr. Chonlathis Iamworawutikul of the School of Engineering, works continuously with the Institute of Industrial Energy, Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), to help set the direction of support for local manufacturers and entrepreneurs. The partnership has four parts:

  • Specialist training, such as “Energy Conservation Strategies for Industrial Utilities with Personal AI Assistant” (21 May 2026)
  • A free e-learning course on energy conservation and cost reduction in industry
  • Advisory committee roles
  • The Energy Point Data Dashboard, funded by the Energy Conservation Promotion Fund, Ministry of Energy

Energy Point Data Dashboard showing SME energy-saving measures by industry group and region of Thailand

The online database compiles energy use, savings potential and results of conservation measures from participating SME manufacturers across every region of Thailand. It can be filtered by industry group, enterprise size and region, so policymakers can design targeted support for different provinces and regions. At community level, SPU electrical engineer Asst. Prof. Dr. Poronchai Juanuwatanakul helped draft the terms of reference for community solar farms under the Village Fund Office. Regionally across ASEAN, SPU engineering leaders joined the ASAIHL Winter Conference 2025 in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam (3–5 December 2025).

National level: regulation, standards and research platforms. SPU energy engineers verify and certify energy management reports and on-site measures of designated factories and buildings under the Energy Conservation Promotion Act. This work supports the Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency (DEDE), Ministry of Energy. SPU co-hosted the AI for Industrial Energy Management programme with DEDE, GIZ and FTI, and its faculty serve on Engineering Institute of Thailand energy and standards subcommittees. Through the Sustainable University Network of Thailand (SUN Thailand), SPU shared energy-efficient building research at the 10th Annual Conference (3 February 2026). SPU also organised SPUCON2025 (30 September 2025) with academic networks including the Joint Graduate School of Energy and Environment, with a keynote from the National Innovation Agency.

At Sripatum University, energy data becomes public value.

Global level and impact. SPU took part in the UN ESCAP conference “Climate Change and SDG Synergy” in Bangkok (29 June 2026), which included a roundtable on low-carbon development. It also joined the SDSN Thailand Public Forum 2025 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (18–19 November 2025), where a just energy transition was central. Together, these roles turn factory-level data and engineering expertise into evidence that local, regional, national and global policymakers can use. They advance the Responsible & Sustainable Growth and Global Knowledge Exchange & Collaboration goals of the SPU Alpha Ready Roadmap (SPU Reinventing Plan 2026–2030).

At Sripatum University, energy data becomes public value. By working alongside government and industry from the factory floor to UN forums, SPU helps make Thailand’s clean energy transition evidence-based, inclusive and within reach of every local enterprise.
