Rainwater harvesting, smart irrigation and a policy that asks every building to waste less. This is how SPU makes sustainable water management part of campus routine.
Bangkok’s water supply is under growing pressure from drought, so a university that uses drinking-quality water to wash paths and water lawns is wasting a scarce resource. Sripatum University (SPU) therefore treats water reuse as university policy, not a one-off project. The commitment rests on the Energy and Environmental Conservation Policy (Announcement No. 100/2565), which commits the university to reduce the environmental footprint of its operations and buildings, and on the Sustainable Resource Procurement and Waste Management Policy (2023), which applies the same reuse principle to every resource. Both policies support the Alpha Ready Roadmap goal of a green, efficient campus.
The Office of Buildings and Facilities puts the policy into daily practice. Rainwater is collected and stored in large tanks, and a smart sprinkler system draws on that stored water first when it irrigates trees and green spaces. Wherever drinking-quality water is not needed, reused water takes its place, which lowers demand on the city supply. These reuse measures sit alongside water-saving engineering, including reduced pressure in buildings, sensor-activated taps and routine leak checks. Students and staff carry the same habit beyond the plumbing. At the 2025 Club Fair, student panels discussed sustainable resource use, and student leaders joined the Royal Thai Army’s Civil Affairs Department to build check dams that hold water in a Lop Buri watershed.
Every drop deserves a second use.
The policy was reviewed through SPU’s annual quality assurance cycle in academic year 2025. Building on that review, the university appointed a new Energy, Environment and Greenhouse Gas Committee, with a mandate that covers energy conservation, environmental management and greenhouse gas emissions, including reducing resource and water use. Next steps include widening rainwater use and adding reuse points as buildings are renovated. The aim is that reused water becomes the default for every non-drinking task on campus.
At SPU, water reuse is a standing commitment. By harvesting rain, reusing water wherever drinking quality is not needed and reviewing the policy every year, the university saves a scarce resource today and teaches the next generation that every drop deserves a second use.

สำนักงานอาคารสถานที่นำนโยบายสู่การปฏิบัติทุกวัน โดยกักเก็บน้ำฝนไว้ในถังขนาดใหญ่ และให้ระบบสปริงเกอร์อัจฉริยะใช้น้ำฝนที่เก็บไว้เป็นลำดับแรกเมื่อรดต้นไม้และพื้นที่สีเขียว งานใดที่ไม่จำเป็นต้องใช้น้ำสะอาดระดับน้ำดื่มจะใช้น้ำที่นำกลับมาใช้แทน ช่วยลดการใช้น้ำประปาของเมือง มาตรการเหล่านี้ทำควบคู่กับระบบวิศวกรรมประหยัดน้ำ ได้แก่ การลดแรงดันน้ำในอาคาร ก๊อกน้ำเซนเซอร์ และการตรวจหาจุดรั่วซึมสม่ำเสมอ
น้ำทุกหยดควรได้ใช้มากกว่าหนึ่งครั้ง
นักศึกษาและบุคลากรนำแนวคิดเดียวกันไปใช้นอกเหนือจากระบบท่อ ในงานเปิดโลกกิจกรรม 2568 นักศึกษาร่วมเวทีเสวนาเรื่องการจัดการทรัพยากรอย่างยั่งยืน ส่วนผู้นำนักศึกษาร่วมกับกรมกิจการพลเรือนทหารบกสร้างฝายชะลอน้ำเพื่อเก็บกักน้ำในพื้นที่ต้นน้ำ จ.ลพบุรี
นโยบายได้รับการทบทวนผ่านระบบประกันคุณภาพประจำปีการศึกษา 2568 จากผลการทบทวน มหาวิทยาลัยได้แต่งตั้งคณะกรรมการจัดการพลังงาน สิ่งแวดล้อม และก๊าซเรือนกระจกชุดใหม่ ครอบคลุมการอนุรักษ์พลังงาน การจัดการสิ่งแวดล้อม การปล่อยก๊าซเรือนกระจก รวมถึงการลดการใช้ทรัพยากรและการใช้น้ำ ก้าวต่อไปคือขยายการใช้น้ำฝน และเพิ่มจุดนำน้ำกลับมาใช้เมื่อปรับปรุงอาคาร เพื่อให้น้ำที่นำกลับมาใช้เป็นตัวเลือกแรกของทุกงานที่ไม่ต้องใช้น้ำดื่ม
ที่ SPU การนำน้ำกลับมาใช้ใหม่เป็นพันธกิจต่อเนื่อง มหาวิทยาลัยกักเก็บน้ำฝน นำน้ำกลับมาใช้ทุกที่ที่ไม่ต้องใช้น้ำดื่ม และทบทวนนโยบายทุกปี เพื่อรักษาทรัพยากรที่มีค่าในวันนี้ และปลูกฝังคนรุ่นใหม่ว่าน้ำทุกหยดควรได้ใช้มากกว่าหนึ่งครั้ง
