From Idea to Income: SPU Lowers the Financial Barriers for Local Start-ups and Community Enterprises

Funding pathways, rent-free market space and a growing SME network give new founders a safer first step into business.

Bang Bua residents attend SPU training on AI and digital content for extra incomeFor many new founders, the hardest part is not the idea but the first money: they often have no collateral and little access to credit. Sripatum University (SPU) treats this as a poverty issue as much as a business one. Under its Alpha Ready Reinventing Roadmap, SPU acts as an “Incubation University” that helps ventures actually start, not just teaches business.

SPU’s School of Entrepreneurship, selected by the National Innovation Agency (NIA) as an innovator-creation centre, incubates founders and guides them to equity-free funding from TED Fund and NSTDA. One example is JACKEN, a plant-based food brand made from young jackfruit that adds value to local farm produce. SPU also supports first revenue directly: at the SPU International Food Market 2025 (5 November 2025), booth space was provided free of charge so student-led food ventures could test products and earn income without upfront cost, and the SPUBUS Market Fair “Green Business” gave young entrepreneurs a platform for eco-minded products.

For many new founders, the hardest part is not the idea but the first money.

Beyond campus, the Graduate College of Management signed an academic partnership with the Thai SME Confederation (15 September 2025) to link local SMEs with university knowledge, interns and business networks, and graduate students coached the Baan Suay Mai Ngam community enterprise in Chonburi using the Business Model Canvas (June 2026). In the Bang Bua community next to campus, SPU trained residents to use AI and digital content to promote local products and earn extra income (August 2025). The CEO Talk series connects local entrepreneurs with leaders who share how to take Thai products to global markets.

By combining funding pathways, cost-free market access and enterprise networks, SPU helps local founders move from idea to income and build businesses that last and give back to their communities. Entrepreneurs and community groups are invited to connect with SPU’s faculties to start their own journey.
