SPU Takes Bold Steps to Cut Marine Pollution with Sustainable Campus Policies
In a proactive move to protect marine ecosystems, Sripatum University (SPU) has implemented a comprehensive campus-wide policy aimed at reducing marine pollution. With clear alignment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG 14 (Life Below Water), the university’s green operations demonstrate how educational institutions can lead environmental transformation.
At the heart of SPU’s strategy is sustainable waste management. The university promotes waste separation at source, recycles organic waste into compost, and utilizes a closed-loop wastewater treatment system. Treated water is reused in green spaces—actions that prevent harmful runoff from reaching natural water sources, supporting sub-goals like 14.4.3 and 14.4.1.
Green infrastructure plays a critical role. SPU maintains extensive, biodiverse green areas that naturally filter pollutants and rainwater, reducing soil erosion and reinforcing carbon sequestration in alignment with SDG 13 (Climate Action). Sub-goals 13.3.1 and 13.3.2 are addressed through initiatives like solar energy installations and a transition to electric campus transport.
SPU also champions SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), incorporating recycling stations across campus, cutting single-use plastics, and fostering efficient, low-impact resource use. These efforts directly engage sub-goals such as 12.2.5 and 12.2.6.
Education is central to SPU’s policy success. Courses and co-curricular activities raise awareness on marine conservation, pollution risks, and behavioral solutions. From beach clean-ups to anti-plastic campaigns, the university transforms knowledge into action, creating an environmentally conscious student body.

มหาวิทยาลัยศรีปทุม (SPU) แสดงบทบาทผู้นำด้านสิ่งแวดล้อม ด้วยการดำเนินนโยบายลดมลพิษทางทะเลอย่างครอบคลุมทั้งมหาวิทยาลัย นโยบายนี้สอดคล้องกับเป้าหมายการพัฒนาที่ยั่งยืน (SDGs) โดยเฉพาะ SDG 14 (ชีวิตใต้น้ำ) และแสดงให้เห็นว่าองค์กรการศึกษาสามารถเป็นกลไกสำคัญในการขับเคลื่อนการเปลี่ยนแปลงเชิงนิเวศได้จริง
SPU ใช้แนวทางบริหารจัดการขยะที่ยั่งยืน ด้วยการแยกขยะตั้งแต่ต้นทาง การหมักขยะอินทรีย์เพื่อใช้ในพื้นที่สีเขียว และการบำบัดน้ำเสียครบวงจร โดยน้ำที่ผ่านการบำบัดจะนำกลับมาใช้ใหม่ในสวนและภูมิทัศน์ ซึ่งช่วยลดการปล่อยของเสียสู่แหล่งน้ำธรรมชาติ (14.4.3, 14.4.1)

อีกหนึ่งจุดแข็งของนโยบายนี้คือการใช้การศึกษาเป็นเครื่องมือเปลี่ยนพฤติกรรม นักศึกษาและบุคลากรได้รับการส่งเสริมให้เรียนรู้เรื่องผลกระทบของมลพิษทางทะเล ผ่านวิชา กิจกรรมจิตอาสา และแคมเปญรณรงค์
