At Sripatum University (SPU), the answer is a treatment process that covers the whole campus. It is run by the Office of Buildings and Facilities under the university&#8217;s Energy and Environment Conservation Policy (Announcement 100\/2565). It also supports the Alpha Ready Roadmap goal of a campus that operates responsibly in the heart of Bangkok.<\/p>\n<p>The process starts at the source:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>On-site treatment:<\/strong> every building has its own treatment unit.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Grease traps:<\/strong> wastewater from canteen kitchens passes through grease traps first, so fats and food waste are held back.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Separate pipelines:<\/strong> rainwater and wastewater run in separate pipes, so storm water does not overload the treatment units.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Treatment:<\/strong> inside each unit, wastewater is settled, filtered and treated biologically. Aerators supply the oxygen that helps microorganisms break down organic matter.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Checking before release:<\/strong> the treated water is checked before it enters the public drains, in line with city regulations and engineering and environmental standards.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Maintenance:<\/strong> staff from the Office of Buildings and Facilities inspect and maintain every unit routinely, so the system keeps working as the campus grows.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The result is a campus that does not pass its wastewater problem downstream. Untreated discharge is kept out of Bangkok&#8217;s canals, which protects public health and the urban environment around the university.
