The commitment builds on SPU&#8217;s Energy and Environment Conservation Policy, revised in 2022, which directs the university to favour renewable and clean energy, design new and renovated buildings for energy efficiency, phase down fossil-fuel use and adopt low-carbon construction materials. Setting the goal five years ahead of Thailand&#8217;s national 2050 carbon-neutrality target signals that SPU intends to lead rather than follow.<\/p>\n<p>The target is backed by action across the campus community. The Office of Buildings and Facilities runs rooftop solar, LED lighting, efficient air-conditioning and expanded green space, and in 2026 the university&#8217;s energy committee was restructured to place climate action and greenhouse gas management at the centre of its work. Students are part of the journey: at Freshy Day 2026, new students joined ECOLIFE in U, logging everyday low-carbon habits that feed into the university&#8217;s environmental data; BIM Club students estimated the CO2-equivalent emissions of a building and proposed ways toward Net Zero construction at the 4th BIM Contest co-hosted with the Engineering Institute of Thailand; and SPU teams brought climate-related innovations, including an earthquake early-warning system, to the 10th SUN Thailand and ASCN sustainability stage.<\/p>\n<blockquote style=\"border-left: 6px solid #29ABE2; border-image: linear-gradient(to bottom, #29ABE2, #E6007E) 1; padding: 8px 0 8px 56px; font-size: 28px; line-height: 1.4; margin: 28px 0;\"><p>Setting the goal five years ahead of Thailand&#8217;s national 2050 carbon-neutrality target signals that SPU intends to lead rather than follow.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The 2045 target reflects SPU&#8217;s Alpha Ready Roadmap and its mission to align institutional practice with the Sustainable Development Goals. Next steps include a verified Scope 1 and 2 baseline, interim milestones, and the gradual addition of Scope 3 sources such as travel and procurement.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A target year is only as strong as the people behind it.
