Many of its buildings and the equipment inside them have been in service for decades. As a designated building under Thailand’s Energy Conservation Promotion Act, SPU carries out a structured eight-step energy management cycle every year. At its centre is a systematic energy audit: the Energy Management Working Group and the Office of Building and Facilities, supported by registered energy managers, assess energy use at organisation, service and equipment levels. They then record their findings in the annual Energy Management Report.

The 2025 review went down to individual equipment. Each major system was scored on how much energy it uses, how long it runs and how much it can improve. Engineers also compared the measured performance of ageing split-type air-conditioners with their rated efficiency. The result was clear: air-conditioning is the largest source of avoidable loss, followed by lighting. That priority list now steers the work:

Long-serving fixed-speed systems on the 4th floor of Building 1 and the 6th–7th floors of Building 5 were replaced with right-sized, zoned inverter units.

Motion sensors now switch restroom lighting in Building 1 to match real occupancy.

Gymnasium lighting in Building 9 was inspected and repaired.

Routine maintenance keeps air-conditioners, lighting and lifts running efficiently.

A survey of Nutrition Center 2 identified worn air-conditioning and ventilation blowers ahead of renovation.

SPU engineering students also study waste-heat recovery and large-building energy management through industry site visits.

At SPU, energy reviews are where improvement begins.

The cycle closes with an internal energy audit and a management review, so each year’s findings shape the next year’s plan. This evidence-based approach reflects the efficient-campus goals of SPU’s Alpha Ready Roadmap and contributes to affordable and clean energy and climate action.

At SPU, energy reviews are where improvement begins. By measuring first and acting where waste is greatest, the university turns everyday operations into lasting energy and carbon savings.

#SPUSDGs #SPUSustainability #EnergyAudit
