#SPULawaroundtheWorld<\/a> : Insulting religion is a violation of Section 206 of the Criminal Code.

\n One foot is on the Buddha statue and the right hand is raised to imitate the Buddha statue…violates the Penal Code Section 206 #insultingreligion<\/a>
\n This is a case that happened in the past and was fought all the way to the Supreme Court until the Supreme Court’s decision was issued in 2007 regarding this case, in which the defendant in this case committed the crime by
\n \u201c…dressed as a monk and used one foot to stand on the base of the Buddha statue in the attitude of forbidding relatives, with the defendant\u2019s foot on part of the Buddha statue\u2019s foot, raising his right hand to imitate the Buddha statue, while the defendant\u2019s face made mocking gestures, widening his eyes and opening his mouth\u2026\u201d and the newspaper published a photograph of the offender.
\n The Supreme Court found that the Buddha image is a religious object of worship for Buddhists in general. The defendant’s actions, in addition to disrespecting the Buddha image, also showed himself to be on the same level as the Buddha image. Therefore, it was an inappropriate action and an insult to Buddhism.
\n The defendant is guilty under Section 206 of the Criminal Code.<\/p>\n

Criminal Code Section 206: \u201cWhoever does anything to an object or place that is revered in the religion of any group of people, which is an insult to that religion, shall be punished with imprisonment from one year to seven years, or a fine from twenty thousand baht to one hundred and forty thousand baht, or both.\u201d<\/p>\n
